Hughes MIGHT take that. Petey starts at 10. But watch the Barzal contract. Him and Chabot are in a similar contract, and given the world situations have the cap flat, I wouldn't expect a massive amount of inflation. 8x8.5 seems accurate, which doesn't really make this a discount. Petey and Barzal should make a fairly similar total.

I like 7.5x4 for hughes as an extended bridge if he won't take 8x(anything in the 8M-9M range). 10.4 x8 for pettersson

Pettersson would get like 11mil for 8 years. Maybe a 5 or 6 year deal would be around 10.5mil
Hughes is DEFINETLY not taking that. 5 years at 8mil he would take 8 years would be 9mil+

So far I have Chabot above Hughes as the better player. He took 8x8. Where I do think Hughes would get more than that on 8 years, 8x8 isn't a massive discount. It'd be 8x8M-8x9M. That's unless there is massive progression next year, which is too hard to say

Again, I don't speculate on the Pettersson contract and won't until Barzal gets a contract. The leafs screwed up the upper end of the market for contracts, so I can't say that Petey will get this because some of the leafs players did.

I will say that I highly doubt he gets 11M

8 years is different to 5/6 years. Petty will want 11mil for 8 years. Unless he takes a small discount I could see 10.5mil.

Chabot is way older than Hughes. This is Hughes rookie season. Next year Hughes will prove a lot more and will get 8 years 9mil. If Josi got that much Hughes will

You're speaking this as if you know the future... a lot of "he will"s. I'm throwing out speculations based on comparable players. Barzal, Point and Aho are the closest thing we have to a comparable for Pettersson's contract currently, and only two of those contracts are known, and they are at a bridge and mid term length. Barzal the closest, and we don't know his contract yet.

I struggle to see a world where Pettersson takes 11M. Maybe if he was on Toronto, but I struggle to see that unless the Barzal contract gets messed up.

I’m hoping but if the want to much then they ruin the team. Otherwise give them 3 year deals, that way you still hold Rfa rights. Or meet in the middle at 6 yrs same cap hit.

    @NTKeeper - thx must have missed the txt ^ ^ ^

Dang...I don't know if that's the way to go.
Mark is 0.911 Sv % lifetime and his age doesn't gel at all with the new core group in QH & EP40...

I think that's a mistake ditching Demko over Mark - but that's my take...

I don’t want to lose him either but you can’t let markstrom walk. That move could derail the rebuild if demko doesn’t become a number one. It’s way to early to give him that type of pressure and he doesn’t yet look ready. Unless demko starts playing lights out next season then you could possibly expose markstrom.

Thanks for that I was wondering how to reply!

    Cheers,
Tough call for Jim Benning as most UFAs do just that; they walk...
    * Give Mark US$5M (plus) and have both goalies until either TDL or Expansion next season.
    * If Demko is exposed to SEA though he's likely gone, and
    * Mark might be 'pissed' w/ JB if he's exposed BUT it's very doubtful he'll be selected w/ >$5Mil contract and in his 30's
