Well you could easily keep Smith and just sign Wis, not Russell. This idea was just for a shakeup. It's obvious Kronwall isn't getting moved, no one is going to take on Ericsson, so in order to make signings, someone with a contract had to be moved out. I personally think Wis is the better gamble anyway. Gives you 3 Right Shot D, he has higher offensive upside and Russell wasn't very good in the playoffs.

I'd agree with you there, Russell isn't very good defensively and we already have our fair share of problems in that end.

Love this idea! I think it's worth a gamble. You don't have to give anyone up and Wisniewski wouldn't cost to much coming off the buyout. It keeps the forward depth and we can hold onto all high end prospects and draft picks. If it doesn't work out, oh well. Not a big long term deal, and you can look for other trades later in the year, if need be.
