Henrik is 38 with one year remaining on his contract, and he's already intimidated that he will be the odd man out, rather than Georgiev. I believe he also indicated that he doesn't want to play anywhere else than for the Rangers. At $8,5 million due for the last year of his contract, there are only a select few teams that could take on that contract.
Lundquist does not have a health condition right now, so the reality is they can't go the route of putting him on LTIR. The league would not allow that precedent to be set, as other teams would gladly jump on that bandwagon to rid themselves of albatross contracts, with the Wings being one of those teams: think Abdelkader, Nielsen, etc.
The Rangers are also in a predicament with their RFAs needing to be signed and limited cap space, especially since the cap may stay the same or actually decrease next year due to what is happening right now. That makes them vulnerable to overspend on a trade to fee cap room to keep cap compliant. Since the pick is a 2021 1sr round, the Rangers may feel they will make they playoffs next year and possibly go deep. That would make the pick a late 1st round, so that could make the trade more palatable in their eyes.
