One is a projected Hall of Famer the other is not, one will likely win multiple Rocket Richard trophies in his career one will not, one will likely compete every year for the Art Ross and Ted Lindsay awards the other will be lucky to have a couple years in that conversation.
Svech will be a star in this league, probably gets over 70 points a season, but Mathews has been and will continue to be a superstar that is over a ppg in his entire career.
Please dont make me compliment Matthew's anymore, I'm a Habs fan and it's making me sick this early in the morning.
Believe me when I say this left a bitter taste in my mouth, I'm from the Barrie area and watched Svech play in the OHL a lot and am a huge fan of his but I'm also obvious who is the better and more valuable player.
Svech has no ceiling. You say he'll be lucky to compete for trophies, when he's 19 and is having a comparable season at his age to Patrick Kane and Patrik Laine. Svech can also literally score from behind the goal. The ONLY thing that makes Matthews even remotely considerable for a trade here is the fact he's a centre. I would not do Matthews for Svech because
A) Matthews is great when he's healthy. WHEN HE'S HEALTHY, he's already got injury issues
B) Svechnikov is more defensively responsible than Matthews, I can use analytics, base stats or even the eye test to back this up
C) The gap between the two isn't worth the price it's gonna cost to upgrade from Svech to Matthews.
I'm not saying Matthews isn't a Fantastic player, not in the slightest. I'd just rather take my chances with Andrei Svechnikov. Maybe that's just me, but that's how I feel
