I know many people are reacting and wanting to move one of the big four. That is not happening (especially not at the deadline). But I am also not so sure I think this group deserves to have an addition come their way either. They have not been playing well enough to have the GM say that they are going for it this year, I think he needs to challenge them to make it with the roster that they have (which on paper is one of the best in the league). And if they can't, open heart surgery happens in the offseason.
Now, I do think Tyson Barrie will move. Where there's smoke there's usually fire and I think getting a few assets for a guy who doesn't fit is good. However, there needs to be an RHD come back somehow to offset the loss on the roster and the trade needs to help Toronto out long term. Maybe these two things don't happen together though.
Here are what I see as two potential scenarios going into today. Should be an interesting day as a Leafs fan. Do you want to see them add? I don't think a full sell is in order since they are still likely a playoff team. It's either the Carolina deal or the Vancouver deal.
D pairings after Carolina/Sharks are:
Muz-Holl
Derms-Heed
Sandy-Lily
After Canucks:
Muz-Holl
Derms-Stecher
Sandy-Lily
I think the Vancouver option is better for this year but the Carolina option has much more future potential. Maybe you can do both and put Kapanen in that Carolina deal and help yourself twice?
