so you're trying to turn a speed team into one of the slowest on the ice?

Marleau can still skate Thornton is the only added player that is not above average speed wise and he takes Bjugstad spot who is an average skater

neither one of these two players can skate. I don't know where you get this idea from.

That is a very slow third line. 40-year-old Patrick Marleau is it's best skater. Not a good idea.

Marleau is still a solid skater while not as fast as he use to be he can still skate. the idea comes from watching him listening to other talk on other sites.

Thornton is at least equal to Bjugstad.

Zucker is an excellent skater and Brodin is faster than JJ

yes the 3rd line is not lighting on skates but they do have other qualities that will help.

plus if Jake rehab works out he will be back late 1st roundish. which moves McCann or Kahun to the third line and horny to the 4th.

Marleau can skate is like saying I can still skate.
Yes, technically I can put some skates on and get around the rink. But I can't skate like I did in my teens or early 20s. That's just hog wash. He's slow. He's over there on a team that is slow as hell if you put him on a team with actual speed he looks like a pylon.
The same is true about Thornton. Who is not the same as Jugs. Hell the knock on Jugs on the Penguins is he doesn't fit their system. Not that he's not a good player. He just doesn't fit the N/S game they want to play. But even Jugs is 10x faster than Thornton on the ice. The guy can barely move.
Why on earth would they bother with that. They won't on either player. It doesn't improve them. It's great and all you want the penguins to do them a favor of taking them on. But neither one is a 4th line player on the penguins. Hell this is a team that has really fast players on all lines when healthy.

As far as Zucker, they don't have 5 million cap space to add another LW. They got 3 of them in Jake, McCann and Kahun. And Brodie is a good player, But do they really want to spend 4 million on a guy where they are going to have to spend probably 4 million on Petterson. They don't need to pay a 3LD 4 million a year. That's not good cap management. It just doesn't fit what they want to do.

This team needs a RW. They are ok everywhere else. I'm sure they would like to add a 3C or even a 4C and let Blueger take the 3C role. But do they really need to look outside to do that.
Lafferty was just fine as a 4C. And the truth is is they do go to find that player, they are looking for someone who fits their speed game and plays N/S. Not some 40 year old player who can barely move.

Marleau still has above average nhl speed.

never said Jugs was not a good player but he is over paid for his talent level he is a third liner. both sharks players are better at faceoffs and your complaint was the were to slow both skate as well as jugs

as for cap management both JJ and Jugs go out in these trades both sharks players are off the books after this year thats almost 8 million in savings. Shultz is gone after this year also if you look at the pens rd now they are spending 14 million on it.

AS for too many lw ,McCann can play center Kahun, rust, zucker , tanev, zar can play both wings well.

so trading for them helps in cap management past this season. it does slow team down not as much as you say, helps in faceoffs. besides Sid the team could use a go to guy on faceoffs.

look at Brodin instead of zucker created by Chigurrhh to see why bridin is well worth what he is paid.

I'm not saying Brodin isn't worth what he's paid. What I'm saying is, 4 million for who ever is on the 3rd pairing doesn't work in a cap world.
None of this does. They get old and slow and then in a mess cap wise.

They don't want McCann at center. They prefer him at wing.
This whole thing is a mess.
