If torey Krug is gonna cost 8.5 they probably aren't gonna sign him. I can't see him getting more than 6.5 honestly

Hate to say it but I actually think Boston will be just fine with contracts. Krejci and tuukka come off the books in another year and while Bergeron and Marchand will likely start to decline in the next two seasons, neither player has cripplingly large contracts (as opposed to burns vlasic and karlsson with San Jose for instance). Not a lot of top-end talent in the system so bruins could be a lottery team for a year or two but I don’t think they’re facing a long rebuild.

I’ve read that Krug has stated that he will take a discount to stay in Boston. That contract, 8.5M, is what another team will overpay him if he goes UFA.

8x7.75 more reasonable to stay here?

Probably. I’ve read that he wants to stay in Boston. 8.5M is a big number. At 6.5M Yzerman just might sign him ?

It's Don Sweeney we're talking about here. If Krug isn't willing to take less money than Pasta or Bergeron Sweeney let's him walk.

It also makes Coyle a viable option to get taken in expansion draft. Not just that, but Coyle isn't so overpaid it's insane. He also was one of (if not the most) the most consistent playoff guys last year. He's had a decent year too. Not great, but not terrible. He's still under 5.5 which is huge.

half-pt-per-game players usually come a lot cheaper. as in mid 3s to mid 4s range. And he has a NMC too... he can't get taken in the expansion draft. Sure coyle might be good in other areas of his game... but to give what is really a middle six forward 5.25 and a NMC for that long is crazy. About 1M overpay OR 2 years too long

Doubt Don Sweeney gives Torey Krug 8x8.575m Doubt Boston has the cap space to give him that much. Pretty sure he'd take 8x6.5m to stay with the B's. Other teams might've to fork over that much though.

I guess Krug might have that choice. Do I stay with the Bruins for rest of my career at lets say 6.75 X 7...and be only a playoff and even Cup contender for all those years. Or do I go to let's say a team with cap like Detroit at 8.75 X 7...miss the playoffs for the first four years and maybe never a contender. Millions of people make choices about their jobs and salaries, and many forgo money to be in a "better situation".

Didn't notice the NMC in his contract. However, the contract isn't that egregious (moneywise) considering others that have been signed. Sure it could be a lot better, but again it's not a massive overpay. He didn't get the contract when he was 30. He protects the puck well, and he hasn't had a ton of consistency from his linemates.
All that said, I doubt he gives Krug more than Bergeron money. Krecji money at max.

If Boston wins cup this year then Krug cashes in via FA and signs for more money elsewhere. 7.5m is the least Boston would be able to lock him in for long term because he's going to get offers of 8m+. Hes a true offensive d-man under 32 YO

Not too many star players over 28 YO are taking super team friendly deals anymore. This is his last and only chance to get paid long term. Tough to leave 8-10 million bucks on the table during your final high earning years

Krug has already said he'd take less to stay in Boston because his family likes it here. Current projections have him in the 6.5-7M for 5 years area.

Yeah will be interesting in what he does this summer, My bet is that he still signs a team friendly deal with the B's.

Exactly this, Will be interesting in what he does this summer. I'll definitely be following him this summer. One of my favorite non wing guys. Maybe because we're both from Livonia, Michigan.
