Panik and Eller aren't clicking. Panik is not great, but he is probably better than Abdelkader. Still, a reasonably priced four year contract isn't looking like the right fit in Washington. You're right about retaining max salary and adding a pick, but I don't think the pick has to be as high as you're thinking. Maybe, like, 3rd and a B prospect at anything besides LHD?

Time will tell. If I had a crystal ball I would be picking stocks, not guessing what NHL players are gonna get when they go UFA. Tory Krug's upcoming deal (if he does go UFA)may be an indicator of what the market will pay for Hamilton.

Its not really a guess tho. When a top tier player goes to UFA, everyone pretty much knows the range they are going to sign for.

You're obviously a Canes fan but I just don't see Hamilton fetching more than Ekman-Larsson, Burns or Trouba. Depends on the frenzy on July 1st I guess. I definitely don't see him anywhere near Karlsson or Doughty money.

OK, I concede. Upon comparing apples to apples you are right. I can see him landing more than Trouba. Probably a lot more if there is a bidding war this summer over Krug and some team sets the precedent by throwing 9 or 10 million at him. I guess that Yzerman will have to convince the Ilitch family to break out some of that Pizza! Pizza! money. He's looking at a $70M deal. He's gonna break the bank.
