Lol...you don't watch hockey? Dougie is very good. Maybe you missed the last 60 games and watched him for the first 20? He won't be winning a Norris but he doesn't need to in order to really help this team.

Hamilton is definitely a top pair Dman, especially on this team, but I am not sure the price is right there. Maybe get rid of Mantha and add another prospect or pick.

I don't know how much hockey you watch, but you should watch more.
There aren't many guys in the league who are not an upgrade from what Detroit has. He will definitely eat up first line minutes in most situations. Compare him and Mike Green (who was the best defensemen the Wings had last year). Both had 19:46 of TOI/game over the year. Hamilton had .52 PPG and 27 shifts/game with 190 shots. Mike Green had .47 PPG, 25 shifts/game with 124 shots. Compare Hamilton to any other Wing, he would be on the first line and a good top Dman. Everyone else is trying to trade for Trouba, who again is good, but not really a top Dman. He would be another Dekeyser. More of a shutdown role, not necessarily adding to the offense.

Trade wise though, I think Detroit is giving up a little too much. Id be aiming for Giordono with what Detroit is offering even if you had to throw in one more prospect.

Agree with everything except the Trouba part. He is the BEST option for the Wings, and I would be okay with Holland overpaying in almost any way to acquire him. He is a better overall Dman than Hamilton, I think - he'll eat minutes, play the PP and PK....plus he is so young and a Detroit native. He is the #1 prize.

I watch plenty of hockey. Dougie Hamilton is a very good defenseman and yes, he'd be #1 for the Wings if they made that trade. If I'm moving Nyquist, Mantha, and a 1st, I want a franchise changing defenseman. Hamilton is not a franchise changer like Karlsson, Doughty, or Keith. He hasn't had a single Norris vote. Only gets 20 TOI and his Fenwick rating is average. Brendan Smith had a way better fenwick than Hamilton and a better corsi score. Mike Green even had a better Corsi and Fenwick in a similar TOI.

Brendan Smith also spends a lot of time in the press box based on his games played totals. Dougie Hamilton does not.

The comment you made suggested he isn't a top pairing d man, which he already is. It had nothing to do with the price DET would pay. I agree it is too much based on what I know of the 2 players vs what Calgary paid for him.

Too much time based on his advanced metrics.

The issue with advanced metrics is they only tell part of the story. They are good for identifying value but over time results do matter. Advanced metrics are not advanced enough to be totally reliable.
