1) There wasn’t a team in the league that would’ve kept Mac over Sparks. Sparks was ten years younger, and was coming off a fantastic year in the AHL. It’s just unfortunate that it didn’t work out. The Penguins did the same thing with Desmith and Jarry this season. They placed the experienced goalie on waivers, in favour of a young goalie who struggled in his past stints in the NHL. For them it worked out.
2) The Leafs can’t afford Copley, Desmith, or Domingue. They can afford Comrie, but he simply isn’t an NHL goalie
