Immediately after Barrie was traded, a lot of people on here threw him under the bus. Barrie is terrible defensively, or he's like Gardiner but right handed, or whatever else. Prior to the trade people were talking about him like he was a potential Norris winner. Gardiner has been a whipping boy for leaf fans and non leaf fans alike, calling him Mr Game 7 and stuff like that. Cane fans on here have been chirping him and the Leafs defence for the past couple of seasons but the moment he gets signed, none of that was real, he's a terrific player and he's definitely going to be the missing piece to put Carolina over the top.

Hilarious to see this unfold.

Despite the Irony in all this, I will say the following about the signing.

It'll likely be a great one for Carolina for the next couple of seasons at least. As long as his back holds up. He will annoy the hell out of you when the puck is in his zone, he is super weak along the boards and absent of what goes around away from the puck at times. He is one of the worst defenceman in the league at clearing the front of the net as well. He'll create offense though and that will endear him to some fans.
