I don't think there's any chance in hell Point signs for that. I hope he does because it would get things moving with the other rfas and Marner in particular. I think that number is a huge under pay for today's prices. I want you to be right though.

What im thinking is 8.5-9x7/8 for point. Its easier to sign players to those types of deals when there is minimal/no state tax..

Should come with a NMC then as well, because if he gets traded then the tax thing doesnt matter.

i think he'll be looking for more of a 9.5m deal, similar to kucherov. Point is a center and simply by that he'll be "more expensive". Kuch signed that deal after posting a 100 point season, Point just put up 92 this year (with 40+ goals), he'll be looking for money.

I would say 9.5 by 8 years, or 7.5 by 4 years would get it done.

Kucherov got that deal after a 100 points season + a PPG season before that.

And BriseBois is not gonna give Point a 4 years deal, that will walk him right to UFA

Kucherov was also two years older at the time of the deal.. he got the "Show me your talent" deal after posting 65 and 66 points. Point just blew that out of the water with 92.. and he had 66 the prior year. You are also glossing over the fact that centers get paid more than wingers.

A great comparable is stamkos. When he signed his 8.5m deal, the cap had just became 73m. Now it's 81.5, an 11.6% increase. 8.5m with the 11.6% increase would equal out to 9.486m per year. So 9.5 isn't out of reach.

I agree tampa shouldn't do the 4 year deal, but they'll need to give Point some type of leverage for a shorter term deal. It's either UFA or structuring the contract for a huge payout in his last year of RFA (for example, the Meier contract where it's value for his qualifying offer would be 10m per year for one year).

So a 7.5m deal for 3 years with the value being at 11m base salary in the final year would probably get it done as well.

Point will no doubt get a NMC for the years he is eligible for one.

2 things .. as much as I love Kuch .. he is not a center and not a defensive wonder .. 2 Points for Point. Negative points for Point ..he is RFA coming off ELC.

I think and Tampa fans should WANT him to get 8 for 9M ish and call it a friggen day. A bridge is bad for BOTH Point and team.. pay the man like Vaz and call it a day ... as long as we trade the shrimps and play Crunchers we should be good.

i am talking about the 2016 summer deal he got.. if you want me to go back to the 5 year 7.5m deal he got in 2011, the cap was just raised to 64.3m. which has increased by 28.55%. which would be 9.64m in terms of the 7.5m salary he got. Keep in mind, that only bought out one or two years of UFA. Point's 8 year deal would be buying out 4 years of UFA. His deal exactly would equate to point taking a 5 year 9.6m deal
