I think the NHL is going back to the Olympics in 2022, because China is a huge market that the NHL would love to tap. Team Canada is hard to project, and you have to cut SO many good players, even when I'm carrying two extra D and three extra forwards in the booth like I am here.

It's tricky, because it's not just about who's good right now, but who will be good when the Olympics roll around in 2022. I could see Giordano and/or Bergeron retiring before the next Olympics, and maybe some other surprises as well.

There are plenty of players not on here (Price, Toews, Scheifle, etc.) who could be on here and it is still an insane team.

There has to be at least 3 names better than Binnington to bring to Beijing.

Price, Hart, Jones, and Kuemper come to mind, granted Price would have to be healthy and Kuemper is in a similar boat to Binnington: it's one good year, is he really an Olympian?

Historical save percentages? Take away last season and he's still a more proven asset than Binnington? I'd be comfortable with him as a #3 if for whatever reason Price and Hart were off the table.

It's tough to project goalies out three years, but I'm assuming Binnington continues to succeed based on our small sample. Price is on the way down. Kuemper is never going to be a star goalie, and Martin Jones is not going to the Olympics. Plus a third goalie will probably play a grand total of zero minutes, so who it is doesn't exactly matter.

Even if last year never happened I would hope Hockey Canada would aim for something better than average

I still want my 3rd string to be elite. Although unlikely, I've seen stupidly unlikely things occur in the world of hockey and would want to prepare for it
