Description
For the record, I only signed Drew Miller because he was signed in real life as I was making this. He's atrocious and I would have never done that, no matter the price...

If it didn't mess with my cap, I would submit qualifying offers to just about every RFA except Aubry, Campbell and maybe Callahan and Miele.

This should be expansion draft friendly as well. Factoring in all of the UFAs and RFAs. Under the 7F 3D 1G format, I would protect:
Stamkos
Zetterberg
Sheahan
Mantha
Tatar (would extend before UFA status, just because I want Abdelkader exposed)
Tyler Bertuzzi
Martin Frk
Trouba
DeKeyser
Green
Mrazek.

I'd leave all the bad, massive contracts unprotected in hopes of them getting picked. Could be a way to shed Kronwall, Ericsson and Abdelkader's horrible deals. Same can be said for Zetterberg and Green but they're still producers. And Jimmy Howard if he's still around in a year.

Shedding some of the massive contracts would free up the money to give bridge deals to all the of the good, young guys (Larkin, Athanasiou etc.).

One of my main goals of this team is to keep the third line of Jurco, Sheahan and Tatar together. In the advanced stats world, they produce the most when they play with each other. My model also has room potentially for Martin Frk on the fourth line or as the 13th F. Maybe put Callahan or Nosek in that role.

Last but not least, this model calls for reliance on the young guys in the top six. They were the best guys on the team last year, and I'd have Athanasiou centering the first line next year if they don't land Stamkos. Zetterberg is too old for first-line minutes.

You have a serious under payment for trouba. Would take more than that to get him out of Winnipeg.

Yeah you're probably right, but he'd be coming to play for his hometown team, and a team that contend a little sooner than WPG. I know he's asking somewhere in the 6 mill range, but I used Sami Vatanen's deal as a bench mark and gave him slightly more. Sami is much better and has better numbers than Trouba, so I wouldn't shell more than 5 mill for him, and neither should the Jets. He's still a kid!

I mean the jets will want more than that for trouba. Most likely Smith and no draft pick going the other way. They consider him a top pair dmen. Oh and he's better than vatanen

Agreed with the above from "Bones20". Detroit is making out way to well in the current trade. WPG wants more than a downsided forward and a prospect defenseman. I also have like 20 questions on the Islander trade.. like first off, WHY? What do they gain from this trade? They have Halak at $4.5M and will probably list Greiss as their starter this year... They would give up their starter, 2 pretty decent prospects and a 2nd round pick for a $5M backup and a AHL 1st line player? Would anyone really accept that trade?

Shedding a contract. The Islanders need an upgrade at goalie, and Jimmy would be more than an upgrade over Halak. I went to a Wings/Isles game in Brooklyn last year, and most Isles fans I talked to would rather have Jimmy than what they had... The Islanders were one of the teams interested in Jimmy over the last few years.

Howard will be a contact dump for the wings don't expect any real value back for him but the cap space made moving him.
