if Palat's contract would be in the way of re-signing one of Cirelli, Cernak and Sergachev next offseason, you can bet I'd do whatever we can in order to re-sign our RFA.
And personally, depending on when we'll ink Point, I wouldn't be surprised to see him re-sign one of Cernak/Sergachev/Cirelli prior to the start of this season.
Nice, then we agree afterall! Glad you still have a super-tiny faith in Ondrej.
Anyways, i was just thinking today who is my current
favorite player right now, before season starts, because u know it can change any year...
Maybe some fans favorite for years was Palat, after this season they definetely will choose somebody else. Haha
So thats the interesting part, i dont like to pick the superstars, cause u know they are superstars, whats not to like in them
Thats why they make the BIG money
So i realized last year i was really happy when i watched Cirelli on every shift, couldn't say any bad words towards him, even after we lost. When he scored goals, or did something good, it was similar to what Brayden Point did little earlier in his career. He was my favourite until now...
Before Point, my fav was Kuuuuuch......... So here we go.
My favourite new
player for next season:
Anthony Cirelli
So yeah, from now i eagerly waiting for a resign announcement on Cirelli. I hope we don't overpay him though. As much as i like him, the team's interest is more important than a particular player's paycheck. I really hope it will be around ~ 3 mill for lots of years... Like Kapanen, Johnson for TML.
Same thing i hope for Pointerz, that he takes less money than market value for the team
= under 8 mill, hopefully it's even lower than 7.5mill, so next year we have less cap troubles.
I mean if we sign him for 9 mill+ , i wont cry, because he is that good, but still won't be super happy about it...
I really hope this Vasi signing is just a one trick pony, to secure our future at goaltending position. Cause u know its hard to find the perfect goalie for any team... Look all the other teams, who doesnt have a really good goalie, they try multiple goalies every 2nd year, if they have a bad season. I fully expect Vasi to even improve, and never have a bad season for the full contract.
Unless the whole D let him down for a full year. But then it's not his fault, u know.
I was a little upset by this huge number for Vasi, but then i thought about for couple hours that why we signed him for that much out of nowhere(from interviews even Vasi was surprised that he got that much money), and i figured it out i think: It's because of the new TV deal in a few years: So first 2-3 years or smth like that it will be a bad-mediocre contract, but after that it will be amazing, and everybody will be saying: Vasi = super good contract. It hurts in the short run, but NHL teams all about the long run. Every contract on long run = best possible , than you have every year a chance to be the champs, or at least make the playoffs and not lose 1st round 0-4... LOL
And yes, you are right: We need to keep Sergachev.
Yesterday i looked into his stats deeply , and he was better than i imagined, its just they didnt work well with Hedman together = it was bad synergy, but its fixable or we never play him with Hedman. They have pretty good stats numbers with Coburn(but thats 3rd pairing, so it doesnt mean that much).
Top priority = keep opponents 1st line + hopefully 2nd from scoring on any shift. 3rd+4th line on lots of teams not that good skill-level wise.
So its also a top priority to resign Serg to an acceptable contract, i was thinking around a 3 mill short term, max 3 years deal, until we sort out other players, then we can pay more money to him. If we pay him lets say 5 mill, i think we are like done capwise... unless we move idk like McDonagh or Stamkos with big contracts.
So i think Sergachev is a must keep, and he is RFA so i don't think we will have much trouble keeping him... I don't think he sitouts like Nylander for Toronto u know... And yes, BriseBois better do this contract sooner, than mid december, cause Sergachev might have a breakout year this season. And that would mean 5 mill+ guranteed... We are just out of cap space next season for a contract like that...
Oh yeah , and also interesting fact i found in stats today, which i never thought its true, but the eye test kinda showed it.
So, i started couple of months ago looking at various stats sites.CF% things like that... This will blow your mind:
Cernak > McDonagh in last season. With a huge margin. So McDonagh coached him so well that he instantly become a better player, than a little regressing McDonagh. ( i guess thats what NYR saw in him, that he won't be better anymore, so thats why they traded him to us).
Since McDonagh new contract just starting, thats not good news for us, cause its 7 years lol. McDonagh at 37 years of age = that will be bad... ouch... please Ryan.. dont be the next Girardi in 3-4 years...
This fact alone made me think that
Hedman-Cernak next season as 1st pairing D = not out of the realm of possiblities.
I never thought about this pairing so far. But it could work vs opposing teams Top lines if we cant find the right teammate for Hedman.
So this brings us to another point, which is:
We should also resign Cernak really early into the season for multiple years, before his agents see in him again 5mill+ value. So around ~ 4 million $$$ @ 7 years should be a good contract the whole way. Lock him up for long-term for respectable value.
So 2019/2020 season Defense could be:
Hedman-Cernak
McDonagh-Sergachev
Coburn-Schenn
This 3 Pairings could work, but it would mean we break up the super well working McDonagh-Cernak pairings, which maybe could be a mistake...but...
Eye test showed last year this pair = good. Plus-Minus = crazy
Advanced Stats i will show you later, it shows different results.
But the adv-stats clearly shows our D rankings last year(i excluded non-rosters players, who left the team):
1.Hedman
2.Sergachev
3.Coburn
4.Cernak
5.McDonagh
Yes, Serg+Cob played vs weaker players so u can swap them, so final rankings:
1. Hedman
2.Cernak
3.McDonagh
4.Sergachev
5.Coburn
6.???Schenn/Rutta???
You see, this could work,because:
Hedman-Cernak worked really well: 55.08 CF%
McDonagh+Sergachev also played really well together from the stats:55.56 CF%
Coburn-Schenn:???
For example it looks like from stats McDonagh-Cernak pair = overachieved = 50.68 CF%, which is not spectacular, so maybe it worth to break them up, and go with different pairings. It will be really interesting to see what kind of pairings Cooper will try in the regular season. From what i can see, our D will be stronger next year. If one of Schenn/Rutta works well. ( or Foote
)
Let the season start already!
