At the deadline if depth scoring is an issue

Description
Have to figure out a corresponding move to bring up another extra skater, but the only move would really be trading Gudas in a hockey trade to another contender. You'll have to make the judgement call to see if you get back a defenseman in that trade, or you bring up Alexeyev/Fehervary and get them some NHL time.

WSH
  1. Sheary, Conor (1 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Salary retained is for pro-ration of the cap hit at the deadline, and some salary retained, if needed by BUF. **THIS ASSUMES THAT BUF IS NOT COMPETING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT**
BUF
  1. Copley, Pheonix
  2. Djoos, Christian
Détails additionnels:
Sheary's stat line: 78 GP 14 G, 20 A. 51CF%.
This allows you to bump Hagelin to the fourth line, allowing him to be your PK ace and focus on the defensive side of the game.

Djoos is out as a 7D - giving BUF a cost controlled asset on the left side of their defensive corps. They don't have a strong left side in the NHL today with Scandella and Hunwick behind Dahlin.

Copley comes in as a spot starter since BUF has some goaltending issues to sort out. This gives room for Samsonov to come up and get some starts to get used to the NHL game since he'll likely be the full time starter next season.

I think Caps MIGHT not score as much goals but they'll be stopping a lot more goals against so it will be okay. Doubt we'll be starving for goals that we'll need to make a trade.

I like this trade even though i doubt it would happen, unless we are really crunched on depth scoring

Agree to both - I posted a similar response in one of the other Caps ACGMs. I think we stand pat at the deadline unless there's a really good addition to be had. I really like the attention that the front office put towards shot suppression and PK in the bottom six.

I think if we dip a little in scoring, we should be able to hold a top 3 place in the standings in the Metro with a better defensive team. We were 5th in goal scoring last year, but only had a goal differential of +26. If we're like 8th in goal scoring and 8th (from 13th last year) in goals against, we're better off than 5th and 13th. Not to mention our biggest weakness as a team was the PK, which was 24th at 78.93%. The bottom six should be a pretty formidable group of PKers, especially when you add in Oshie and Wilson to the mix.

If the PK does not improve MacLellan may want to contact Betterall for help there as well. Both Girgensons and Larsson are very strong. They had only a 15% OZ start yet both managed a CF around 50%. They start in the defensive zone then get the puck into the offensive zone, while they are offensively challenged, they do a great fob of controlling the play.
Edit: I should add, Girgensons is a former all star. (LOL)

I agree. I don't think scoring will be much of an issue with this team, and I think Buffalo will be fighting for a wild card spot this year if they can get at least average goaltending. But it's not a bad trade, especially considering Djoos and Copley's spots are the two positions the Caps actually have strong prospects to replace them.
