I know that! But he represents the Swedish national team so he should have no place on this lineup! Nylander is the best winger on the Leafs so even if he is on this fantasy team, should he be on the first line ahead of Gallagher.

Yes it’s me. I’ve decided to come onto CapFriendly to see all the Peter Chiarelli people overpaying Mitch Marner with Auston Matthews money. Plus most would trade Willy in the process!

I'm doing your (and the lords) work on this page currently. It's my obligation to point out on every single thread that Marner for 11 is worse than Willy for 7

It’s not just the money, but the skill and ability as well. Nylander is just a totally better all round hockey player.

Trading Nylander is an even worse move considering his perceived value after the "down year" he had, after absolutely dominating with poor shooting %-age

“William was born in Calgary while his father, Michael played for the Calgary Flames. He spent the majority of his youth in the United States where his father played for several NHL teams, spending the summers in Sweden. His family later moved to Sweden when he was 14.”

Just because he was born there it doesn’t mean that’s his background. He’s a Swede and a beautiful one.

Yeah I have them very even, if there's anything really in Marner's favor it's that he's a year younger. I attribute most of this years success to Tavares as well, which makes the high praising homerism of Marner that much more funny, cause one would think most Leafs fans could be as much homers about JT, but apparently not.

Leaf fans need to just stop thinking Mitch Marner should get similar money to Auston Matthews. It is honestly getting beyond ridiculous. Ever since entering the league, no player has scored more even strength goals than Matthews, Marner is absolutely not in the same category in terms of individual ability. In fact, even William Nylander is a better individual player than Mitch Marner. So far in their careers, Nylander’s Corsi for is 54% whereas Marner’s is only 40%. In fact, each star forward on the Leafs found more success playing with Nylander than with Marner. Kadri has a .86 G/60 playing with Nylander and .85 playing with Marner. Van Riemsdyk has a 1.33 G/60 playing with Nylander and 1.18 with Marner. Tavares has a 6.27 G/60 playing with Nylander and 1.53 with Marner. Matthews has a 1.53 G/60 with Nylander and a 1.04 with Marner. This suggests that Marner doesn’t have a lot of individual talent plus his all round game is lacking. He has been riding on success playing with elite centres such as Nazem Kadri and John Tavares. On his own he is average at best. Everyone has been talking about how he should be getting paid 9-10 million a season, but he’s actually nowhere close to that level. In reality, Mitch Marner’s closest comparable is Conor Sheary, another average winger who has benefited from playing with elite centres. Anything offer sheet over 6.5 million dollars the Leafs should not bother matching. Just look at his advanced stats and possession metrics! Awful.

Marner's a nice compliment to any play-driving center, and he's good on the PP, but that shouldn't equal some 11m pay day. It's such an upside down world, especially when considering the rest of the RFA's. They money will probably be Marner > Rantanen > Point > Aho > Laine > Boeser > Tkachuck > Connor > Meier or something, when Point, Meier and probably Tkachuck/Aho are the best players out of the bunch. People complain about defense when it comes to defensively average guys like Erik Karlsson or Nylander, only to turn the blind eye to shot-gun riding primary PP-producers that aren't difference makers at 5on5. "So much other than points are important" say the hockey men, while continuing to pay almost exclusively for points.
