That NYI trade isn’t that bad. I kinda like it but I’m not sure if the Islanders want to part with Toews

Yeah, Isles fans seem to be pretty high on him at the moment, but I don't think he's untouchable. Isles seem like a good suitor for Schenn though based on their needs. I don't see him as a part of our future core.

It would be a no from the Isles. Schenn would be a UFA at the end of the year that the Isles probably cannot afford to re-sign with the raises that Barzal and Pulock are going to get. Leddy it the D-Man that is going to be getting moved for the Isles.

Do you not think a deadline rental would be a possibility for the isles?
What is Leddy worth to you guys in a trade? I know he's still pretty good, but are you guys mostly trying to dump his cap at this point? Blues will be looking for a Bouwmeester replacement on the left side.

If the Isles are in a position to make a deadline deal Schenn could be a good target, but not at the expense of Toews which creates another hole in the lineup. Leddy is not a cap dump, he is a legit Top-4 D-Man. He just looks to be the odd man out where the Isles have some good young D-Man coming up. The idea is Toews replaces Leddy, and then Aho would be brought up to replace Toews. I would have no issue with Leddy continuing to play with the Isles, but all reports are that Leddy is the guy getting moved.

Wouldn't Edmudson and Dunn be your long term LD? If you needed LD that was NHL ready the Isles could trade a guy like Vande Sompel. He could play 3rd pairing now in the NHL, he is just further down the depth chart for the Isles.

Edmundson took a step back in the second half of the season and playoffs, so a lot of us are unsure of his future with us. I think he’ll get a chance to redeem himself if he chooses a short-term prove it deal, but if he’s looking for term right now, he will likely be moved. This time next year, I think we will be down to Dunn and Gunnarsson as our current LD and will be looking to add a top-4 LD.

I also don’t like the idea of re-signing Schenn assuming he’s looking for a long term deal, so he should be dealt next season. Wouldn’t be opposed to keeping him for an own rental though.

Honestly I like most of it but that Isles trade isn't happening unless the Blues are sellers, the Isles are buyers and the Isles sour a bit on Toews. I also think you are 250000-750000 short on Binnington but you have the cap space for it. Everything else is realistic and smart just a lot more moves than I expect the Blues to make in that span

I was kind of comparing this Schenn deal to the Shartenkirk deal a couple years ago (selling excess for futures even though still in playoff position). I thought up a similar deal with Buffalo but I think we’ll ultimately just keep him for a run and let him walk. Binnington I used Murray’s contract as a comparison. He’s still kinda unproven in longevity.
