Not sure MTL would trade any 1st/2nd 2020 picks (w/ draft in MTL) plus I am figuring they grab Gardiner...

Leddy is worth a 1st plus and shouldn't be moved for anything less than a 1st, even if it's to clear CAP.

If they miss out on Gardiner I can see Leddy as their fall back and they would probably surrender a 1st in 2021, maybe not 2020 since the draft is in MTL.

A Mitch Marner offer sheet at $12 million AAV is something the Leafs would easily walk away from. Just keep in mind, both RFAs Matthew Barzal and Ryan Poluck are do for extensions next offseason. If the Isles chose to offer-sheet Marner for that ridiculous amount of money, the Leafs would 100% offersheet Barzal next season. And unlike a few other teams in the league, there is absolutely no way the Isles can compete with the signing bonuses the Leafs could do in that offer sheet.

Leddy is not worth a 1st rounder in any sort of return to the Isles.

Pulock replaceable. Dobson/Wilde will be ready. Barzal offer sheet is something to consider.

Pulock is not that replaceable. He is a good young right-handed defenseman. Big. Tough. Great shot. Not qualities that are easy to replace. And based on what I saw in the OHL this past season, I don't think Wilde will be ready next year. Dobson could be. But you would think the Leafs would get their revenge on a Marner to Isles offer sheet and what better way then to target their #1 center.

Top 4, puck moving LH defensemen who consistently puts up 40+ points is most certainly worth a 1st round pick. And before you go and say "he only scored 28 points last year", Trotz employeed a Defense first system, so all Isles offensive numbers were down last year, you put Leddy on a team that will let him play his offensive game more and he'll be back to 40+ points.. so, yes, 1st round pick or he doesn't get moved.

You're assuming Lou even lets Barzal get to that point. He's gonna have Barzal locked up way before that even becomes an issue, especially if he actually has the balls to OS Marner. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Lou has already had talks with Barzal about his next contract to get an idea on where he is and has probably talked, or will talk with Barzal, if the Marner OS happens. One thing has become evident over the last two seasons, this team has banded together in the wake of Tavares leaving and have come to understand the team is more important than the individual... Lee, Nelson and Eberle have all taken significantly less money to stay with the Isles than they could have gotten on the open market, no reason to think Barzal, who is now the face and savior of this franchise wouldn't do the same for the chance to compete, and possibly win, multiple cups here.

Haha I don't think really anything you said there proves that Leddy is worth a 1st round draft pick. I mean, a team could get real desperate about it, maybe at the deadline this season, or next offseason. In theory the Isles could theoretically trade Leddy to one of the teams under the cap floor, but I seriously doubt any of them will give the Isles a 1st rounder as part of any sort of deal to acquire him.

Lou could have certainly spoken with Barzal's people about an extension, but based on the current landscape of the NHL and, in particular, how things are doing with these elite RFAs now up for extensions, I can pretty much assure you that Barzal, whether extended by the Isles or offer-sheeted by a new team, will not sign anywhere until next offseason, after this full NHL season is over. It would not be in his best interest and I am sure there are smart people around him that have told him that.

Ok, come back to me after Leddy nets anything less than 1st round value. Thanks.

I wouldn't be too sure. As I said, Nelson, Lee and Eberle all took less money to stay here because these guys (and Barzal) are PROUD to be Islanders, that much has become evident over the last year since Tavares left. This team took that as a real slap in the face and loyalty has become a HUGE character trait for them. All 3 UFAs this year have said they didn't want to be anywhere else, Barzal has said he doesn't want to be anywhere else and after Tavares saying that and then leaving and how fans reacted to that, I don't see these guys saying it if it doesn't mean something.

Rumors are saying Lee's deal was agreed to, in principle, during the season, it wasn't announced because Lou wanted to go big fish hunting this off season and Lee was willing to renegotiate if that big fish cost more than originally planned. You don't think seeing your CAPTAIN do that to help improve the team is going to rub off on someone like Barzal??
