Why would you waste money signing Gardiner?
The Leafs have Sandin who is very close to being ready to crack the roster. They have Dermott. They have Borgeman.
They have enough LHD they don't need to add another.
If they did they could find someone else for less to turn the puck over rather than sign Gardiner.

The Leafs are not bringing back Jake Gardiner. Leafs are already full on their left side D, even if Dermott is out temporarily. It will likely be filled by Andreas Borgmann in the meantime.
