I don't even know what to say. MB traded Andrew Shaw for what reason. If he makes no moves this offseason, he would have moved a warrior for no reason.

because he was in his prime and his value was at an all time high. moving his almost 4mill contract would have been difficult after next season. plus its an extremely deep draft next year, and he got a good pick outta that.

I just don’t understand why if he wanted Aho... he didn’t go higher... several “experts” have said today that if he would have went to 9.5 million Carolina would have seriously considered not matching... Aho already asked for 9.5 and Carolina countered with 7.5... basically they helped get to the middle ground by offering the offer sheet...

I think Point will be worth every penny of that deal, which is why TBL would find a way to match it.

the bonuses would have been the same. 21mill. you can go either way with the aav. plus, if im not mistaken, due to revenue sharing (carolina is broke) the cap money comes from the league, while bonuses come directly from the owners pocket (I could be wrong), so thats why it didn't make sense to offer more. andrew zandrowski from Habs EOTP did a break down of various cap scenarios. either way, he walks as a ufa from carolina, and if the history between him and mtl is there, then we have a good change of signing him 5 years from now

Montreal has too many forwards. Someone had to go and why not someone who has value but also with a history of injury issues. It's not like they won with Shaw. Habs are in a great place, knew bad contract (Alzner) and ton of depth, a ton of prospects, top 5 goalie in the world...Hab fans need to start thinking before reacting

Point doesn't sign in the first place.
In the words of Pierre LeBrun: I mentioned this during our free agent frenzy marathon telecast on TSN that according to my sources, the Canadiens actually began the offer sheet discussion with agent Gerry Johannson on RFA star centre Brayden Point (Johannson represents both Point and Aho). But as the week went along, it began to make more sense for Montreal to try to exploit budget-conscious Carolina.

If I had to guess, I’d say Point would have not signed an offer sheet anyway and I don’t know that the idea ever even got to his doorstep.
