But then you have Kotkaniemi as your #1 C .... that's a big BIG step up in competition.

And a rookie as your #3 C ... yes he did have a good game ... but before that 1 game he was considered a long-shot to make the roster out of camp.

He never attended camp, NCAA players can't. and he wasn't under contract then.... so what are you talking about?

They'll all get points ... but their better off signing someone like Hayes instead of Duchene.

Need some responsible defenders.

I'm talking about this summers upcoming camp ... no one thought he was a guaranteed 3rd line center for next year ... until he played 1 great game.

NCAA guys usually need at least 1 year in the AHL ... even if they have good stats.

Poeling had 31 points in 36 games ... which doesn't usually translate into an immediate top 9 NHL forward.

he's inconsistent time to time. no one screamed about his defensive play when he was a ppg player during the 1st half of the season

Being a PPG player is an effective shield against valid criticism ... unless your Phil Kessel.

Not scoring for 30 games (dunno the exact number) will definitely re-ignite it though.

def will. inconsistency is his major problem. but he can still fix it. but as far as ive seen according to some reporters like brain wilde, drouin prob gets traded this summer. his contract isn't bad, the potential is there, and he has no clauses in his contract. but lets see

What is his trade value though? And who would MTL target?

depends. the team the package. most likely they'd want a top 4 puck moving offensive left shot D. they have wingers in the system

- Nylander is younger than Drouin + beat Drouin's career high twice (9 points each). His D is also less of a question mark (people just like to dump on him since his holdout).
- Muzzin is easily the Leafs best D besides Rielly (his game is very similar to Weber's but he's a LD and is younger / cheaper). MTL loses term but removes a future cap-anchor.
- I think MTL wins both of the above trades ... but Zaitsev for Suzuki is an obvious mis-match.
- However ... Zaitsev would have solid trade value if his cap-hit was only $2,000,000 (not $4,500,000) and Montreal saves $2,500,000 in cap-space on the above two trades.

All if this is irrelevant anyways ... I just thought it was pretty fair and MTL would look good with:

Muzzin - Petry
Kulak - Zaitsev
Mete - Juulsen

Weber is still a number 1 defensemen, Muzzin is not. That gap on the right shot would take years to fill, as we wait for Brook or Juulsen to hit their ceilings. and his retirement early, will help mtl via cap recapture penalty. Nylander might be better then Drouin as we speak, but he is overpaid, and Drouin still has more potential. He's a high pick as well. I would give the edge to Nylander though, but as we speak, Nylander was horrible, just horrible last season. Suzuki has the potential to be a first line winger, who will be on KK's wing for the next decade at least. This trade doesn't benefit mtl at all.

I don't think Drouin has more potential than Nylander at this point (he's older and hasn't peaked as high as Nylander yet).

And I feel very strongly about this next part lol: Nylander was not horrible last year. He had a horrible start but then then played fine / pretty good.

- 3 points in his first 20 games (0.15 PPG) and looked super out of shape.
- 24 points in his last 34 games (0.71 PPG) a 58 point pace (per 82 games).
- 5.4% shooting % for the season (his previous career average was 11.1%).
- He was getting quality scoring chances (but missed like 18 of 20 breakaways).
- A shooting % near his career average would've put him on a 60 point pace (still his fault though)
- He spent the majority of the season without Matthews on his line (for the first time).
- He played close to 25 games at 3rd line center (and showed a solid 200 foot game).

His whole season was just a worst case scenario:

- The media was against him before he played his first game (due to the holdout).
- He was clearly a step behind at the start, which became the Leafs dominant story-line.
- Then the story and all of his interviews turned into " your getting chances - why can't he score?"
- So his stick turned into a tree trunk for the rest of the season.
- He made 1 bad mistake in the playoff's, which was all over the media.

In my opinion ... in the 2nd half he looked like a guy ready for 70-80 points on Matthews wing (but he played 15 minutes a night with Brown / Marleau instead ).

you can state all the stats you want bud, but at the end of the day, he pretty crap. he had no major injury that he was coming off of. he had no excuse to not be a ppg guy. he was given every opportunity to do so. he was also given the opportunity to play center for a few games. he never seized it. i wouldn't make that trade regardless

He played great at Center ... Matthews + Tavares + Kadri ... pretty set in stone when healthy.

He had a much better season than Drouin overall though .... debate over.

drouin was on pace for 67 points, before his total disappearance. give them both time. and no,he wasn't good at center. i watched him. i rmr that game against tampa or philly, i believe kadri was injured. and he played 15 or 16 mins and was like 33% in the dot, against the opposing teams bottom 6. i rmr that game well, cause he was just horrific. i know im quoting 1 game as an example, but that was just 1 of the games that really showed me, that he isn't capable of playing center in the nhl. i mean thats okay. leafs have centers. but it'll be wrong to say that he is "good" as a centermen in the nhl. debate over
