Description
When Cally's contract ends 4.5-5.5 goes to Vassy to re-sign him between 8-9M. All other UFA's with 1 year left, besides Gaunce, will be let go. That money re-signs Sergy. Then Gourde leaves the team next off-season to re-sign Cirelli and/or Cernak. Future = solved

Lmao I’m sorry but the only way is to trade palat. No one would want Killorn in a million years bc he’s hella overpaid and they just got Miller. Palat isn’t rly relevant anymore anyway

Killorn is a .5 pt per game scorer .. 40 pts for the last 5 years with high plus minus .. usually NOT playing with top guys that inflate guys like Johnsons numbers .. he has some size and grit .. he is still in upper 20s and contract is manageable at 4.4M for next 4 years.. compared to MANY other team players over valued on this site .. he a relative bargain . I would keep him over Johnson and Gourde in a heartbeat all things considered

If the price for Killorn is a 3rd and 7th, the Canucks should be all over that. I would do both of these deals as opposing teams. I would obviously prefer Palat to Killorn however as RomanPolak mentions

They're in cap hell. Other teams know that they have to get rid of some guys, so they'll be taken advantage of. Look at the Grubauer trade last year between the Avs and Caps. All they got back was a 2nd round pick for a starting goaltender. Other teams were offering 1st round picks, but no one wanted to take on salary. The Avs did, so lower cost.

Where do people get this ?? Killorn just came off a 40 point season and a 47 point season the previous year. Palat took a step back these past 2 years but he still got 35 points in 56 games for the 17-18 season and 34 points in 64 games for the 18-19 season. So to say he's not relevant anymore is ridiculous. Overpaid yeah. But he makes 5.3 mill for 19-20, 3.45 mill for 20- 21, and another 5.3 mill in 21-22. So he's making 4.7 mill AAV these next 3 years. Not that bad for a player that is easily over .5 points a game these past 6 years. ?

yeah they won't get the same value if they weren't against the cap but when your trading good players on fair value contracts that are locked up for 3-5 years your gonna get way more back then in say a Jeff skinner trade last year where he had one year left till UFA and that trade was just really bad for Carolina. Same thing with Grubauer he had one year till he was UFA. Plus Tampa doesn't really have any cap dump besides Callahan and they could move that for a pretty reasonable price, theres a lot of rebuilding teams that want to get the most value out of there cap space.

Agreed. Though I think teams will likely be weary of giving up picks this summer with the expansion draft coming soon. Said team would likely lose a player like Miller in the expansion draft. That or they have to give up another pick for Seattle to pass over Miller. Contending teams? Probably more likely to part with picks for the help now.

This whole "up against the cap thing" to me is laughable.. the ONLY way that is possibly somewhat true to get lower value for a player .. is a) if there was only ONE suitor for a player AND 2) said other 1 team KNEW THAT .. and 3) trading team HAD to sell low compared to other options

The odds of all above coming true are near zero

Yea, a lot of this cap hell is nonsense. Tampa and some other teams that are going to over the cap have to the ability to trade players to be cap compliant. Even if it isn't quite comparable trade value returned in a trade So what? Would a team rather be in Tampa's "hell" or in Ottawa's on ice situation with lots of cap.

I'm not the Lightning's general manager, an NHL pro-scout, or Killorn's agent. These are meant to be possible trades to relieve cap for picks. I feel they could get at least that much back for each player. No sense in losing a pick to dump Cally's contract when there's only one year left. He's a good 4th liner and playoff leader anyway. Plus if the Lightning were to only dump Cally, then they'd be in an actual cap-hell next season when Cirelli, Vassy, Sergy, Joseph, and Cernak will all be looking for a raise.
