What about some kind of Bratt for Kapanen deal?

From the Devils perspective, that doesn't make much sense. Bratt performs, is young, and can play both wings. Devils are searching for a right shot forward, but losing Bratt to accomplish it doesn't move the needle for the team. That just creates a different need

Kapanen is speedy scoring winger who can kill PKs greatly. Bratt for Kapanen would help both teams imo. Bratt is playmaking smallish winger and Kappy speedy jerk. I would not do it if Leafs get Wennberg so they will pair Wennberg with Kapanen. But if they keep Kadri, Bratt would be nice option on his LW or RW, likely RW.

From the Devils sake, that is a step sideways, IMO. Both very good players, and I agree about the PK help, but you're losing a player with enough speed/creativity to play with Hughes in that trade. It helps Toronto clear until Marleau's contract is off the books, which is very enticing to that team, but it simply opens an additional hole in the NJ lineup.

As far as comparable quality, it's a decent return. But, from a Devil perspective, it doesn't help move the needle forward enough to pull the trigger.
