Description
Summary: Drastically improved the Defense and Goaltending.

1. Montreal trades for Hemsky to improve depth at RW. Mitchell fills the hole left by Fiddler walking in UFA. Eakin moves to move RW.

2. Philadelphia moves Read for cap relief. Mason solves the Stars need for better goaltending and could still platoon with Lehtonen if necessary. Philadelphia makes Neuvirth the official #1 with Niemi coming in for solid, and potentially frequent, backup duty in case of a Neuvirth injury.

3. Stars sign Yandle to fill need for a top-pairing, left-handed defenseman.

My only complaint on this is Jamie Benn is due a huge contract, and the next couple of years after that so is Tyler Seguin, expect the same contracts that J. Tawes, and P Kane to have, also with Patrick Sharps contract up next year, need some room to Re-Sign him.

But other than that great job

I'm actually thinking that Sharp walks, and Benn will take most of that money for his extension. Same for Spezza's money and Seguin. Hopefully by next year, Nichushkin becomes the top line RW that we need to replace Sharp, and in 3 years, Dickinson/Janmark proves to be the 2nd line center we need to minimize the loss of Spezza.

I don't see Montreal making that trade. Hemsky is a decent top 6 guy but it doesn't exactly push us over the top either. We need to either do nothing and save prospects/picks or go all out on a star player through trade/free agency.

It's not like they'd be giving up much. Worst case scenario, the Habs get a 3rd line scoring winger and a third-pairing defenseman for a veteran 4th liner and a 3rd round pick? That doesn't sound unreasonable to me. Especially considering how shallow they are on the right side.

Worse case scenario is precisely why I wouldn't make this trade. We don't improve enough for it to be worth it. Using up cap space/ losing a draft pick (69th overall)/ losing a solid cheap depth guy. I would rather take my chances honestly.

Only 2 guys worth trading for Hemsky straight up are Emelin or Desharnais but i don't think they help Dallas either so........ Just don't see a fit happening.

Valid opinion I guess. We don't have to agree.

I wouldn't even care about the draft pick to be honest. Make it a 5th or 6th or 7th and I'd still do it. To get a potentially 50 point right winger plus a decent, young, big defenseman; that's a steal for the Habs from my POV.

Well now your changing the trade. If Dallas changes the pick to a 6th for example than yes by all means i would consider it. For me a 3rd rounder which is 69th for MTL, can turn into a very good player so i would be very hesitant but seeing as your willing to make the pick less valuable, then personally i would be more inclined to do it.
