Leafs cant afford him we steal him

Description
Leafs either screw themselves and match this or we get a top line winger to play with Connor and Leon can run his own line.

If we can do this with the only cost being Sekera with money retained and a weak backup goalie then why not.

Vesey trade has been deemed fair in a few different other threads here. I add Safin as a lottery ticket incentive for NYR to retain some salary, which they can afford.

Define more successful because if you go back 15 years the Oilers have made more second rounds. If making the playoffs the last three years and losing round 1 is you success than I guess. Maybe marner wants to win a round.

"If you go back 15 years."
Dude marner is 23. He doesn't care what happened when he was 7 lol.
I am saying that making the playoffs since marner was in the league is more successful than a freak run and 2 misses. Also, those 1st round losses were to one of the best teams. Look at this year, the first round leafs v Bruins was basically the conference finals for the east. You can't use 1st round lol as a chrip in this system as it puts the 2nd place team vs the 5th place team (NHL wide).

Ok. Go back three seasons. Which team has had a deeper playoff run, Edmonton or Toronto? Also saying leafs v Bruins is like eastern conference is ridiculous. It doesn't matter that you lost to the potential cup winner, that doesn't make you second. You may have lost to columbus or Carolina. You still lost in round 1 for 3 years

On the 2nd round bit, a freak run is not more successful than a perennial contender.

On the 1st round thing, you are just flat out wrong. The way the system is designed pits the best teams against eachother early, not late as most agree it should be. The hardest series for Boston was the leafs, and there is no argument to the contrary. It was the best on best in this playoffs (in the east), and was essentially the ECF. Whoever won that series was always going to go to the finals, and everyone knew it.

Leafs wouldnt have beat other two teams, not until they get a goalie who can play in the playoffs, some defense, some toughness, and kadri to play a whole series

Also that's not how it works. I agree playoffs are laid out stupidly, however, losing in round 1 is still a round 1 loss. That it. No silver linings of who you got beat by, no being able to say 'if' we beat Boston we would be in cup, cause your not, and there is no way of telling. Only thing that is for sure is that you have made it to and lost in round 1 of the last 3 seasons.

I'm not sure what to tell you if you seriously think the leafs couldn't do what Boston did.
The leafs outplayed Boston in 4, maybe 5 of 7 games, the problem was they choked in game 6 and parts of game 7 (while other parts of game 7 were phenomenal).

The leafs out worked the Bruins, they put up more chances than the Bruins and they out hit them too.

Of all the playoff losses going back to 2013, this was the first year the Leafs SHOULD have and deserved to have won.

**** happens though and in small sample sizes, pucks off asses is king. If the Leafs bury some of their chances they beat Columbus and Carolina just as easily as the Bruins did, if not more. There is a reason why Leafs Bruins always go to seven, they are very evenly matched teams, and both are top teams in the league.

And even if you still don't want to go with any of that.

Consistent opportunity is better than a fluke run that only won 1 playoff series.

Yes I am sure marner has zero involvement at all in the discussion about the next 3-8 years of his life and finances. Zero chance you're wrong about that I am sorry for doubting such a close friend of the Marner family.

Yes... The player has close to zero involvement with negotiations. Marner and his agent will of course talk, but Marner is not an expert in contracts. His agent is.... Has nothing to do with me knowing the Marner family. It is how negotiations work. Leafs low-ball, Marner camp counters big, they meet in the middle. Nothing to do with marner, just the agent doing his job. That is how it works you plug

Are you Toronto Mo's aware that a 2016 National Geographic piece had Edmonton listed as a top 10 city to visit in the WORLD ? Edmonton is a terrific city . Why wouldn't Marner want to play there ? Chance to hook up with a Generational Superstar ....you really think Edmonton is going to keep missing the playoffs ? You Toronto boys are too much
