As a leafs fan, I'd cry if the leafs made that trade. Not that OEL isint a stud but Matthews is the franchise C we have been waiting for since Sundin.

Just try to explain why a top 5 D man in the NHL is worth less than 1st OA.

Would you move the pick for Doughty (older), Karlsson (older), Hedman (older)? Totally confused why people think 1st OA is worth OEL + a top prospect. It's OK to say that TML won't trade the pick. It's another thing to say OEL isn't equal value for 1st OA. He is a UFA in a couple years, yes. That is a reason for TML to say no. However, the deal is beyond fair.

People seem to forget that most cup winning teams have a stud on the back end. Rielly is good but by no means can we conclude he is going to become that guy.

Perfect answer. But we need to stop with this nonsense thinking ARI will give us OEL for 1st OA. We also need to stop trying to ask for more....OEL > 1st OA.

If ARI does it, it's because they can't keep OEL long term. It's ridiculous to just think that they will be giving us OEL +++++++++ for the pick.
