As a Toronto fan (assuming Spurgeon gets a fair extension) that's a very fair trade in my eyes and helps both tems.

Spurgeon is going to want too much at 28 that I think will hurt the team long term.

What do you think Toronto will do about their right side defense then if anything?

I think they will do a wait and see approach. They have some intriguing pieces and some guys that look like they could be part of, if not the answers. I think they start the year young and inexperienced and evaluate. Otherwise they are likely going to make a short sighted move to make Marleau one year remaining a little easier.

Mixed feelings on this as a Leafs fan. I guess they mostly revolve around how long the extension is for and the AAV. Hard not to be concerned about signing a player approaching 30. Spurgeon is legitimately excellent though. Crazy underappreciated defensively because he someone like 6"5/240 that goes around gooning people between whistles. I wonder if because there's a 1st round pick involved how would you feel about Minnesota retaining some of Spurgeon's cap hit next year to help Toronto as well?

I had the salary retained as part of my original deal. Two million Toronto would save would definitely relieve some stress for Kyle Dubas. The Wild won’t be at the cap ceiling next year, assuming it’s going to be $83 million, so they can afford to use cap space as an asset.

Faulk is also a Minnesota boy, so I feel like he would be like that trade.

Yes. We have excess defensemen and could use another top 6 forward. Maybe Zucker and Nino would have good chemistry together here.
