I get all the hype is around the prospects here.. but those trades are awful.

Shattduces doesn't get you 2 2nd's. He's been awful, best to take back players that add up to his salary and bury them in the minors for the cap relief.

That doesn't get you Trouba. You're ripping off Winnipeg if you're signing Trouba to an extension right after the deal. Start with 1 of Andersson, Chytil, or Howden (I've heard many NYR fans offer Howden in a package deal for Trouba), make it the highest of the 1st's the Rangers have if it's Pionk as the other piece, or DeAngelo if its lower, and another lower level prospect. Then you're closer.

You've gotta add something better than a 6th to get Ottawa to help you get rid of Smith's contract. Gaborik's contract is insured so Ottawa only pays about 20% of it and they can still use the full cap hit to hit the floor. Taking on just a 6th round pick is nothing for how awful Smith has been.

Overall, needs quite a bit of work.

Shatty has a 10 team no trade list. That leaves 20 teams open to trade for him. Out of those 20 teams, 16 are either making the playoffs or are very close to making the playoffs, and that means he’s not a viable option. That leaves out 4 teams that are in rebuilding or retooling mode and are near the cap floor. Those teams will look for the Rangers to pick up half his salary with a draft pick, or mid level prospect. The less salary retained the more valuable the draft pick or prospect will be.
