The Jets will do all they can to trade Perreault and Kulikov so they can keep Trouba. If that doesn't work, the Jets are a "win now" team, so it makes no sense for them to trade Trouba for a bunch of futures. McLeod is at least a year away from being a productive NHLer, and the 2 picks will take 3+ years to make an impact (if they ever do). Realistically, the Devils don't get Trouba without:

1) giving up one of (Severson, Butcher, Bratt or Palmieri)
AND
2) taking on a bad contract

All True ... and honestly I still think the one + two option favors the Devs (ex Severson, who they can't afford to lose, due to lack of depth on blueline). Trouba maybe more valuable than that package.

Also, in that last trade, I think JQ is essentially valueless now. AHL value. Not sure that package gets AB.

Probably not enough on either big trade but I love the targets. McLeod and Quennville aren't worth much.

The more I think about it, I don't see the Devils escaping a Trouba deal without giving up Severson or Butcher. The Jets are pretty much set on offense. Not worth it in my opinion, especially to get a guy coming off a career season. He had been very average, and injury prone, prior to this year. Trouba could very well become a career top pairing dman wherever he goes, but I can also see it blowing up in someone's face like Shattenkirk did.

In my opinion, JQ's value will be in trying to move up in the draft. If the Devils see someone they like late in the 1st round (between 24 and 28), he could be packaged with the early 2nd rounder to move up. Same with moving him with one of the later 2nd round picks to get into the mid 2nd round.

Of all they guys you mentioned, Butcher would be my first choice to go. I would definitely take Trouba for Butcher & absorbing a bad contract

If you look at Trouba's stats prior to this season, it becomes less obvious. From my limited time watching him, and looking at his stats, I'm less impressed than most by Trouba.

Understood, but have you watched much of Butcher? Good instincts, but slow & soft in front of his net. I'm not sold on him at all.

Butcher is a QB on the PP and a long term solution on the 2nd pairing. More importantly, his AAV will be $3+ Million less than Trouba's. Also, this was Butcher's 2nd season in the NHL, so he still has development left. Trouba has been in the league for 6 years now, and only 1 was impressive.

I guess we will see. I see Butcher as 3rd pair, at best, on a good team. Hope I'm wrong and he becomes far better. Trouba? Sure, better deals out there. Hooe they make one.
