If D>C for the Flyers FO, and Frost is ready, they can add that veteran D man by buying low and take care of several long-term extensions to RFAs (Provorov, Sanheim, Konecny). I'm not advocating this approach or priority on D; Just illustrating a scenario to expect if the Flyers prioritize a veteran D acquisition and stick with an internal approach to the 2C/3C hole.

I'm also doubting the Flyers will splurge on a long-term UFA contract on D here to either Stralman or Myers, the usual suspects of speculation. I also regard Karlsson as a pie in the sky target. Getting him to sign here after the Flyers' poor season when he will get great money elsewhere is just not realistic. That leaves the trade route, and Chucky two trades is able to wheel and deal.

With Demers, the Flyers are buying low on a player with some injury history, but all the "veteran" qualities they seem to be emphasizing. Demers is a two-way defenseman with a rough around the edges play-style that fits Flyer hockey. Just how the Flyers configure the D will depend on the form of the players, particularly young Phil Myers, who could develop into a top pairing D man. Regardless, the Flyers would now have 3 right-sided D men to play with plus a better balance of youth and experience. For Arizona, they have a surplus on D, a need to address forward, and a preference for cheaper, younger talent due to financial constraints. Hagg and a pick may be seen as fair value from their side to cut costs, but perhaps a better round pick would be needed to close the deal.

The Nichushkin buy low is a carry over from another roster I published. Just happy to get more feedback on that outside the box idea of taking a buy low swing for a third line wing role there. Paired with a play maker in Frost, that might prove really interesting.
