Vegas has their own cap issues and are not taking on those contracts.

I'd say same for Edmonton, I don't think they can absorb Gudbranson's contract (even if they wanted to)

What's the value Pens fans out on Casey DeSmith or Tristan Jarry?

Tristan Jarry is a future starter but won't be in Pittsburgh unfortunately. Casey DeSmith was the better backup and earned his contract and is a few years older than Jarry. Jarry actually reminds me a lot of Fleury just much smaller and not as talented. He will still be good though. He basically was the only reason WBS had a shot at playoffs in the AHL

... so what's the value on both of them? Like for a trade?

Hard to say that Jarry is a future starter when he's put up average numbers in the AHL, and awful numbers in the NHL

I'll take your word for it, I think it's a long shot type of trade that an incompetent, under pressure franchise might pull the trigger on after seeing Gudbranson's relatively successful time in Pittsburgh

Eh I wouldn't say that much since goalies aren't in high demand. Maybe a 3rd round pick or a role player at most right now. He might not pan out to be the highly touted prospect he was when he was drafted, but you can tell that he has the smarts and talent of a professional goalie. I can see him filling a role on a team like Arizona or Detroit until the team rebuilds. Idk, goalies are too unpredictable I feel.

DeSmith probably could fetch a draft pick as well, but with how little he is playing I don't see any team inquiring on him unless he steps up again like he did last year

DeSmith is a back-up, maybe a fringe starter. He stepped up pretty well early in the season when Murray was hurt. Not sure how much value you get out of him.

I never know what to think about Jarry. I think he's an average starter in the NHL or someone that's involved in a goalie by committee type thing. I think Jarry projects to be a notch below Cam Talbot/Petr Mrazek. Hopefully he can show that level soon, because with his age I think Pittsburgh can get something decent for him.

For Jarry I was thinking a 4th that's a conditional 3rd depending on how many games he plays next season and a C prospect at most. For DeSmith I was thinking more like a 3rd. He's a career backup, not much more than that. Might be able to do a depth player too but not anymore

Goalie trades are so hard to do I feel like. Kind of random in how they project to turn out. I think the pens hold on to DeSmith as a back-up at least for this year. Jarry you could look to swap for like a 3rd liner and a 4th/5th round pick or something, or a prospect and the same pick

I was just thinking of a back up upgrade for Toronto. Both are an upgrade to what Sparks is. But Pittsburgh will probably lose one of them to waivers when next season starts anyways, so I thought to jump ahead of the game and get one early. I'd prefer DeSmith cause he's more of a guy that you know what to expect outta him. But I agree that Pittsburgh is more likely to keep him. If that's the case I'd think of an offer like this:

Toronto Maple Leafs
Tristian Jarry

Pittsburgh Penguins
Adam Brooks
2020 4th round pick (turns into a 3rd if Jarry plays at least 25 games for Toronto in 2019/2020)

Yeah I'm sure they can ship him somewhere, and I think the fit is there but not the cap!
