But Helm still has some value and Vlads cap hit is $4M, Anderson was #7OA so why trade him with 2 other assets for #6OA?

Helm has negative value. 7 goals in 60+ games with a -11+/- at 32 years old making almost 4 mil w multi years left on his deal. Namestnikov is making 4 mil but him alone could fetch around a 2nd. Lias Andersson has been somewhat underwhelming in North America. Rangers need a top D and 6th overall could do that for them. Why would det say no to that

Because it isn't worth it for Detroit the best piece in this trade is the #6OA pick and you haven't offered anything worth while to get it and Detroit wants Byram as well. Plus after10 the talent in the draft drops off quite a bit making those 10 picks worth more.

DET - takes 2019 1st round pick (WPG), 2019 2nd round pick (NYR) and Pionk

3 reasons, one is Namestnikov is nothing special, he only had 4 more goals than Helm, so yes he is younger but is not that much better than Helm at this point. I doubt Namestnikov gets a 2nd and he not a solid top 6 foward. He is a 3rd liner which Helm is at this point, plus he is a + penalty killer. Also Wings do not need to dump cap next year with over 19 million in possible cap space.
Two it comes down to moving down 16 spots in the draft for an underachieving forward. Andersson had 6 goals in the minors in 36 games and was a -24. That is not a piece that gets a team to drop 16 spots in the 1st round.

3rd the Wings could select Byron if he falls to 6 OA. To get team to drop from the top 10 to the early 20's in the first round you to come stronger.

- Rangers are much ahead in their rebuild, unlike the Wings so the Wings really needs another top prospect where they can draft Byram.
- It's better to get quality over quantity.
