Interesting, I think this is the first realistic Marner contract I've seen anyone put on here. Everyone else puts him at 9-9.75 million for 6-8 years, which is never going to happen.

I agree but Babcock loves the guy and he is the only guy who at least tries to push the other teams forwards away from the net.

I bet Babcock is telling Dubas "I told you so", concerning the choice of back up goalies. So maybe this summer Dubas listens to Babcock more closely.

Bridge deals are rare now. Part of me can see Marner taking that deal just because of who he will get to play with for those 3 years, then when the Cap has increased over those 3 years he could be asking for 12 a year at the end of that contract.

But.. its hard to walk away from guaranteed money. Marner is a smaller guy, one hard hit and he could be beside Horton on the depth chart and that's why guys are asking for 6-8 year deals.

The trend has been that guys don't bridge but Marner / Toronto's situation could be an anomaly.

Imagine how much more money the Leafs would save if Lou Lam was the GM. Nylander would be @ 5 million, Matthews @ 9 million, Marner @ 8 million and both Kapanen and Johnsson @ 2 - 2.5 million. If he did the Tavares contract it would have been for 10 million. JVR would have been resigned @ 6 million and Komarov @ 3 still.

I don't know if I completely agree with that. This is also a business for the players, they are looking for contracts that are fair now and in the future. Sure 5 Mil might be a more realistic number for Nylander this year, but in 2 or 3 years from now that contract would probably be lopsided in favour of Toronto and that's why agents get 3% of your contract to make sure that doesn't happen.
