I'd like to see colorado on the other side of that trade (as an avs fan). Callahan and Miller for Nieto and Andrighetto rights. Or Barberio, I don't care. Avs can afford to take on Callahan's contract and will actually use him. He's an upgrade over any one of our 4th liners. And Miller can fill the Soderberg role when his contract is up next year. What would you want from the Avs for Callahan and Miller?

Callahan is a cash dump and Brown would be compensation for said cash dump(while sorta being a cash dump himself) so I think Tampa wouldn't expect a lot in return as long as the return didn't include much in the way of salary.

More I look at this, the more I think Carolina would be the best trading partner for Tampa in this type of deal. The Canes have the most cap space, need offence and have a logjam at d. Match made in heaven.

One has to wonder why this was not completed at the TDL. Tampa could use a RHD and I am sure there were many teams that would been happy to take on Miller with only one year of Callahan's salary. It was a hot rumor that Ristolainen was headed to Tampa, but this trade makes sense and I thought a trade involving Bogosian would work if Betterall retained part of Zach's salary.

Then I speculated why Beaulieu was traded so late that maybe he was part of the deal. Callahan, Miller and Sergachev for Beaulieu, Bogosian, Shark's 1st and STL 2nd with additions and salary retention. Beaulieu is certainly not as talented as Sergachev but he has a decent NHL resume, Bogosian is not Ristolainen, but he would be less expensive and his contract runs out next year. Moving Callahan and Miller would allow BriseBois to sign Point. Adding Miller and Sergachev would upgrade Buffalo's center and LHD. Then Betterall could lean back with satisfaction that he traded O'Reilly, Kane for Sergachev, Montour and Miller. BriseBois gets his RHD, dumps cap to sign Point and adds a first and second round pick. He sets his team for the playoffs, for next year and with the picks for the future.

I agree, I'm pretty surprised this wasn't taken care of at the TDL... A Gudas return would be interesting. Unlikely, but interesting.

Something like this may just happen in the offseason, especially if Callahan is willing to waive his nmc for Buffalo. Biggest reason Tampa didn't make a move at the TDL though is you have the best team in the NHL by far up to that point. Brisebois did the best thing he could, nothing. You dont mess with that chemistry.

I understand the reasoning behind Tampa's "trade-less" TDL. I wanted Panarin / Stone if the price was right, but at the very least was hoping for a couple depth fwds and dmen... Especially with how cheap they went for on TDL day...

I'm not denying how dominant we've been this year, I'm just sharing history and why I'm pissed that we didn't even make a trade for a couple proven NHL experienced depth players. Oh whale, TDL is in the past. Either Tampa wins the cup this year and the boys resign on team friendly deals, but if they get eliminated again this year... Don't be shocked if big changes are made.
