Description
If the current NHL standings remain the same and no wildcard team wins the draft lottery EDM will be selecting 6th. Where one of Cozens, Dach, Zegras, or Boldy will be drafted likely. Would they consider moving down in order to pick up assets or to rid themselves of a poor contract?
Chicago, Vancouver, New York, Arizona, Florida & Philadelphia follow EDM in the upcoming draft. Do they love someone where they could make a deal in order move up?

Is there any truth to the Connor Brown / Adam Larsson rumors?

Also would a Burakovsky / Puljujarvi swap happen?

Is Spurgeon available if Minny is hitting the rebuild button?

How can EDM offload Lucic, Brodziak & Russell?

You'll have to pay more than a second to get rid of that contract... Boedker deal is for only one more year against 4 more years in Lucic' case

They also need to hit the cap floor but I agree even tho we have seen more wild stuff then this I guess will see what happens should be an interesting off season for Edmonton

I don’t think the Larson trade is any good. I see a good defenceman going to Toronto and nothing of equal value coming back. And then the Oilers add Cave. Chiarelli isn’t the GM anymore.

What’s the logic behind Schaller for Russell?
Vancouver is happy to bury Schaller in the minors and Russell adds nothing in return. The canucks don’t want another teams castoff player, they have too many of those.

For a team to eat the Lucic contract, it’s going to take a 2nd and probably a decent prospect even with 50% retained at this point. There is no “hockey trade” to be had with that contract.

Ya i dont disagree, but the logic behind something like this would be EDM trades Lucic + (RS $2M) + 2nd round to OTT and then OTT turns around and flips Lucic + (RS $2M) to lets say Boston for a 4th or something. It follows the logic around the Brassard deal last year where Vegas took on salary in order for Pitt & OTT to complete the transaction. I should have expanded on this thought process in the explanation piece. Its a 3 way deal where OTT drops Boedker and adds $2M in cap by retaining part of Lucic deal but receives a 2nd round and 4th round for argument sake.

Straight up removing Lucic from EDM would require a whole lot more than a 2nd or you take on another teams bad deal

Connor Brown is a strong top 6 forward who is young and under team control. Zaitsev is poor but would likely be included in a deal in order to make the money work.
Losing Colby Cave is nothing, keep in mind he was a waiver claim. TO is going to need NHL player making sub $1M playing in there bottom six in order to keep the team in tact.
Larsson is a good dman and losing him wouldnt be ideal however he is not a #1 RHD.

To even the trade up TO could add some picks or a decent prospect. However if it were a Chiarelli deal EDM would be trading Larsson for Brown 1 for 1

VAN just dealt away Gudbranson and will likely be looking to add a 3rd pair dman for next year. The deal isnt VAN looking to add castoffs or drop Schaller, there will be a team need for a established NHL dman especially if Edler walks (not that it is likely).

So why wouldnt they look at adding Russell? They arent in a cap crunch and he would provide them with steady 3rd pair minutes
