Ottawa's probably going to want to hit the cap floor, and this helps them.

There are better players who they can get to hit the floor. Someone like zaitsev who is at least decent and better then Johnson and gudbranson.

Problem with Zaitsev is that he's in the same division as Ottawa. Now, I know interdivisional trades have become more common, but Ottawa would likely look elsewhere first, then turn to Toronto.

i disagree with you. he has the skills, look at his first season and his highlights in the khl. he is an offensive minded defenseman, right handed, good passer and can play on the pp. His contract isnt very good but he played very well with dermott and in an offensive role. Babcock absolutely refuses to let him play in the oz, it makes me so mad that he uses him in a role he cant succeed in. he pretty much is forced to play back for gardiner so he wont pick up points, he plays to much on the pk and in the dz. I legitimately think he could help a team who doesnt have many offensive dman who can play the pp like dallas or vancouver. if babs put matthews in an only defensive role and on the pk he wouldnt score much either, he is such a good coach but he refuses to optimize his lineup
