I'm not an Anaheim fan but I would take that trade! I would even say that Buffalo is overpaying!

Woof idk about takin on Kesler...

Edit: just looked at his hockeydb, 6 pts in 48 games? Unless BUF can LTIR him and just pay him cash, no cap implications I want NO part of that.

That's what you pay to get a cost controlled upgrade for ristolainen and a 60+ point guy locked into a great contract. Kesler can still play a defensive role and was a 58 point guy 2 years ago. I think a change of scenery will help

Also, his contract has no bonuses, so we can buy him out when we have to pay dahlin for very little pain

Neither nylander nor guhle are A prospects and montour is better than risto

A prospect is a broad term. Nylander is still probably going to be a middle 6 winger and Guhle a bottom 4 D. Take one of Guhle or Nylander out and I think about it, given that we should have space before Dahlins deal

I'm also getting rakell and montour. They are going to make you take on money to get them. Guhle and Nylander are solid prospects, but not cant miss guys and its thr worst of the 1st rounders as SJ is definitely making the playoffs

Also, I know it's an overpay, but that's what happens when you want good players, in their prime, with term

Idk, if I’m ANA and I get Kesler to waive his NMC to BUF, I’m probably willing to take a LOT less than the package we are giving.

And if we’re being honest, BUF should play RK 1 year and then just LTIR him.

With no bonuses, he could be bought out. I think he can be a useful bottom 6 player for a little bit

I'm an Anaheim fan and normally when I see a Rakell trade on here I get pretty frustrated because he's such a good young player on a fantastic deal and one of the core pieces to rebuild our forward group around. However, your trade actually makes me think. I think the valuation is pretty fair, because even though we're taking a big hit up front and our defense isn't really improving, the pick and prospects are eye catching, and you agreed to take the worse of two bad contracts (Kesler's is worse than Sobotka's). I'm a bit hesitant because I don't know if there will be enough of a supporting cast to help our rookies coming up in the near future, but if one or more of them show that they can handle the NHL workload with ease next year, then I wouldn't look back on this trade with any regrets.

Thank you for being one of the few fan-driven trades that actually makes sense!!

It makes sense because it’s an overpay by BUF...
Take out Nylander/Guhle and sure.

It's not an overpay. Rakell is a proven 1st line winger on a cheap deal. You can't say that about Nylander, Guhle, or the 1st round pick, so you need the combo of those to even it out. The Kesler/Sobotka swap makes sense to offset the cost of acquiring someone similar to Rakell, which will cost a lot more than the $3.8M he is being paid.

Hmmm I think you are underselling how awful of a contract Kesler is. It’s so bad, if you add it to Rakells deal, it makes Rakells deal a bad contract.

Either take Nylander or guhle out, or retain on kesler.

Giving the Ducks Sobotka is basically a $3.5M retention on Kesler, since he is also past his prime and can't score.

Yeah but that’s only “retention” for 1 year

Then buy him out. Ducks don't make the trade unless they get some financial compensation to sign a player similar to Rakell.
