Does Babcock still want LGD

Description
Heard y'all still need a solid 3rd-4th line forward and a right-shot defenseman. We all know how Babcock likes his grit and LGD is basically his love-child. Jensen is a good, RH-shot who can slot in anywhere from 3-6.

The leafs aren't signing Marner without a little cap help, and with Kronner retiring and Ericsson, Daley, and Green off the books next year, Zaitsev could be a solid, 2-way defender for the Wings in the future. That being said, Toronto's gonna have to sweeten the pot a bit for the Wings to take on Zaitsev's contract, as they are divisional rivals.

Détails additionnels:
I personally don't think the Zaitsev contract is as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Could it be a big mistake if he does flame out and hinder the Wing's ability to make free agency moves when they are competitive in the next couple years?

Yup.

But they are paying Ericsson about the same amount and anyone that watches Wings' games will tell you he is useless against any player who can skate faster than a pile of rocks. And as the cap expands, it will become more of a fair deal for Zaitsev, as long as he can still be a solid 4-5th guy. The wings are going to have 2-3 guys on entry level contracts on defense for the next two years anyways, so it is doable.

The value seems like it's pretty fair IMO, do the wings have any good goalie prospects?

id rather not take Zaitsev unless a first is coming back with him. if you can shed ericsson in the offseason meaning that next year we have green & dekeyser , Zaitsev & cholo and probably daley & hronek as pairs. with the rookies playing more it cant be any worse next year and hopefully we add a top 4 dman in the offseason. looking at you tyler myers. personally id rather keep Jensen reup him for like 2.7 mil instead of Zaitsev

Zaitsev's contract bad because as TML adds more talent and depth he declines steadily every year .

when all you have is Bozak and Kadri then you become a part of the play whether you're capable or not . the issue becomes when they were bottom team in the league winning Mathews that season in the draft , they tend to look less critically at his turnovers , and 2 way game . As they begin to succeed with Babcock building his team around speed and youth Zaitsev just hasnt been able to get his **** together .

Zaitsev's not bad he's just a rebuilding teams 4th D at best and no contender can afford to pay him as he has little to no heart

I tend to think that too. Jensen will be affordable for this next contract and should be solid as a mentor for the young guys. Has a great work ethic.

That Zaitsev contract is a non-starter for us. If we take on that brutal contract. Then the Leafs need to give us better players then this.

Yeah I mostly agree with that take, IMO it seems like Z doesn't care that much and hasn't taken any development steps at all. I understand it's not easy moving to North America and not knowing any english but it's clearly affecting his play, other than his average rookie year.
