If Johnsson and Kapanen sign those deals, they will be for 1 year. But other than that, not too bad. No need for 2.5 million for Girardi.

How about Kronwall? Also, I seriously doubt that Marner takes 1.5 less than Kane did when Marner is on track to score a projected 18 more points.

How much does that matter anymore? Like actually, Eichel sign for 10, McDavid for 12.5, Draisaitl for 8.5, Nylander for 7, Pasternak for 6.66, and Larkin for 6.1. The average cap hit of those is 8.46 and an average of 77 points. Converting that to Kane's year, that would have been a 9.45 million deal. Cap adjusted, that is 8.61. Adjusting that to Marner, he would have signed for 10.4 million off his ELC if he was signed the same year as Kane. That is cap adjusted to 12 million this offseason. You judge. Nobody takes a 25% discount in hockey.

Tavares did he left lots on the table. Now I don't think Marner and Tavares are the same Tavares is older so more mature Marner still young and wants to show the world that he should be captian and asking for captian money. He had a good 4 months but he has had Tavares or Mathews at center. The league is goning towards paying young players. It would be interested if Mathews signs for less and shorter term to see what Marner(camp) is going to do.

Kucherov took a 15-20% discount, Tavares took a 15% discount. Tavares at a 25% discount is 9.75. And I tend to agree. Marner's deal will greatly depend on what Matthews does. Which is likely going to be sooner rather than later.

Matthews and Marner deserve identical contracts, IMO.

I don't know how you can watch a leaf game and think that Marner doesn't have the same, if not more of an impact on the game. I don't care about C vs RW...even when both are on the ice at the same time, the game runs thru Marner.

Now...I don't think they ultimately sign for the same amount...but they should. How is Marner-Matthews any different from Kane-Toews or Getzlaf-Perry?

I hate to agree you are right only because that will be a lot of money on two players. IMO the league still sees a bigger player as being more valuable even though he has been injured. Perception and one is a first round pick. one scores more than the other little thing that change the value of the player.

Considering Kap and Johnson only have about 1 1/2 nhl experience that's not bad money.
Hopefully the Tavares contract is used as a ceiling, mathews being the only one to get more money.
