Romanov is interesting, but rather get a 1st for Gus. Nashville has one of the worst PPs in the league and would benefit from adding Gustafsson. They gave up a lot for Hartman, and I could see them doing the same for Gustafsson.

Edit: Don't you think the hawks have enough D prospects?

We have three RHD prospects who are offensively gifted, but will have defensive growing pains. We have a smattering of LHD prospects, but none that project to be dominant shutdown players. Romanov is a really interesting prospect who might be a phenomenal future partner for Mitchell or Boq.

Fair assessment, should probably look into trading a couple of Boqvist/Mitchell/Jokiharju/Beaudin/Krys then shouldn't we? Obviously Joki and Boqvist are untouchables so it'd be down to Mitchell Beaudin and Krys. What are the hawks going to do with that many D prospects?

I think Krys is a backup if Mitchell or Boq doesn't develop as planned, which often happens. I think Beaudin ends up taking Forsling or Dahlstrom's spot pretty quickly. The hope would be that Romanov takes the other. The ideal situation is that 3 years from now our d-core looks like - Romanov/Boqvist, Keith/Jokiharju, Beaudin/Mitchell, with one of Krys/Dahlstom/Forsling as the 7th D. This is assuming Seabs is eventually bought out or has to LTIRetire.

Mitchell is not an offensive defenseman and based so far, Mitchell might even be better then Boqvist. Mitchell is very much like Seabs but faster. Krys is playing really well is another stay at home defender and should be an upgrade over Dahlstrom. Beaudin is like a Forsling. As Beaudin and Krys come in, we will see Keith move to the 3rd line the last 2 to 3 years of his contract. On the Right we are stacked with Jokiharju, Boqvist and Mitchell and somehow still having to manage Seabs. All this being said and we have Gus who alone turned around the PP and as long as you pair him with a stay at home shut down defender Gus will only get better. So no, Hawks definitely don't need more defensive prospects especially considering we have a couple in Rockford (Carlsson, Radysh) who are playing well.

Even trading Gus for a late 1st I think is risky since late 1st rounders have a 30% chance at best at playing consistently in the NHL. I think Gus is worth a late 1st and a prospect. Thus, the MTL trade is just awful you are proposing. Try MTL 1st round pick and Romanov for Gus.
