Description
I doubt half of you will read this...but here goes..

Trade plays off a deal posted by a Philly fan on here that was essentially Lilly, 1st and Horton for Simmonds at $1.5 retained and Gudas.

The trade bellows:
a) I don't think Philly goes for it
b) I don't think Toronto goes for it either

But I wanted to see how it looked.

Trading Horton does have value to the Leafs. He's not on LTIR which means his full cap hit has been counting this year. Leafs also need $3.7 in cap space left this year to pay performance bonuses this year instead of next.

Also, without other salary being moved, I think Brown might be dealt this offseason to free up cap space and a roster spot for a rookie. So this deal essentially gives the leafs a solid upgrade from Brown to Simmonds for the playoffs. A physical vet upgrade on the blueline from Ozhiganov to Gudas...while freeing up enough cap space to pay for performance bonuses + maybe make another depth acquisition.

The cost for those upgrades and the cap space is essentially Liljegren and a 3rd...not a cheap price...and not one I'm necessarily comfortable with...but is an interesting scenario nonetheless.

From Philly's point of view...you're getting a young winger in Brown, a top prospect in Liljegren and the 3rd round pick in exchange for a pending free agent..a depth D-man..and paying Horton's salary.

You make good points and the trades well everyone will have there opinion on weather or not its no or Yes. The only thing and I don't know is, does Philly have the cap space for Horton.

Yup..or negative implications like the leafs if they immediately put him on LTIR. I didn’t look at that end of the equation given the original idea came from a Philly fan and assumed he’d be their problem to sort out

The trade with the 1st is more realistic...

It would come down to
1. The market for Simmonds (May get a 1st and prospect for him alone, although won’t be as good as liljegren)
2. Leafs willingness to get a rental (they have stated they’re looking for someone with more term

I personally like the gudas acquisition but don’t find simmonds necessary. Maybe bracco and a 2nd for gudas

Don’t disagree at all. I’m not a fan of trading for Gudas personally but saw the other idea that involved Horton and wanted to give it a go.

I gave Brown the value of a late 2nd to 3rd round pick. Added to a prospect like Liligren + a 3rd might be a more attractive haul for a retooling team than a late 1st and a lesser prospect.

But certainly not disputing other teams might offer up a more attractive package.

In my opinion
Leafs 2019 1st > Brown, marincin, 2019 3rd

Something about that number 1 seems extra shiny
