Would retain salary if it helped make a deal work. But if we are trading both of those guys to Edmonton AND taking back Spooner (while we still have Strome, who we also took off your hands) you'd have to consider any combination of Yamamoto, Bear or other Draft picks to involve. Or swap out Spooner for Klefbom (if we retain half of Kreider's salary).

Because Ottawa is a horrendous franchise that screwed the pooch. After 6 months of hemming and hawing, they took one of the 1st deals they could get to basically clear money. It was yet another braindead move (much like sending their potential #1 pick to Colorado) by an an inept Front Office. Can't really compare any logical hockey trade to that one (although on a side note, Karlsson had only one year of control, while again, Kreider is this year and next year), and I doubt you'll find anyone to disagree with that.
