Description
So other teams will put a bid in something tells me the team that repeatedly called the leafs if they were ready to trade are going to come in as the winner. They obviously want nylander and have the capspace to meet his ridiculous demands. But though they want him they have to make an offer that the leafs can look at and say we did get a fair value for him. Pesce though on a good contract is not by himself worth Nylander but adding a solid 2/3line LW and a potential future bottom 6 centre could seal the deal. Johnsson has potential to be a solid winger but can't get on the ice and could be a kapanen type wing given the opportunity and a 2nd gives fair value. This trade solidifies both CAR and TOR with one trade.

For a guy who could be as foundational a player as Sebastian Aho, I don't think you're getting enough here. Nylander alone should be worth that group. Add in Johnsson and a second and I think the Hurricanes should give us Pesce, Foegele, Morgan Geekie and Janne Kuokkanen.

Personally, I think you have to shoot higher. We don't want to make a trade where the sum of the parts we are getting equals Nylander. We only get to make this trade once!

As Grapes says," Whoever gets the best player in the trade, wins the trade."

I get that but who says that he will be the best player look at how he struggled without matthews last year, and when matthews was being double teamed in the playoffs. He might end up being a great player but he may end up being an overpaid whiney b***h that will never reach his full potential.

Fair enough. I think you should put yourself in Nylander's shoes though. They both want a long term deal. If they are 1.5 million off in AAV that adds up to $12,000,000 over the course of the deal. That's a ton of money and probably more then I will earn in a lifetime at my mid level job.

Yeah but he doesn't even want a bridge to even prove hes worth 8 million. Thats the issue here he doesn't want a bridge nor take less whan what everyone is saying is an overpayment. So what should the leafs do sign him at 1.5 more than value and trade another core player to makeup the difference? If this was a soft cap your argurment would be understandable but unfortunately he is in a hard cap league and needs a better understanding if his value.

That's true. Value is something that is tough to establish when you are talking about potential though. I honestly believe that the Leafs will take this down to the wire and if they had to, would make him sit for the year.

They may but they will only do thay if they feel it will make him come down in asking price but if they feel it will do nothing than he will need to go. I don't like it but if they can tidy up their holes and though pesce is playing 2nd pair he has proven to be able to play top pair min against elite talant and played well. Pesce is a Martinez/Muzzin type dman and LA won a cup with that paired with Doughty. So though letting him sit may happen that is only if there isn't a trade that the leafs feel is worth it.
