No need for Stamkos, we have 4 centres

Description
Why pay Stamkos over 10 mil to score 30 goals when we can pay Parenteau under 3 to score 20??

We need to address the long term goalie situation and I have found some recent info...since Fleury has a NMC they have to protect him in the expansion draft and unless they trade him (unlikely) they'll be trading Murray.
-Let me know what you think of my proposed trade (probably not enough for him)

This team has 4 SOLID lines, which seems to be the need in the NHL these days

btw Marner is STRICTLY the 13th forward because I'm not sure he'll be in the NHL next year (although i think he will)

Well done. I think you are 100% right. The Leafs have always taken shortcuts in the past, they are now building the right way and should stick to the plan.

Agree with most of what you did. Wonder if Leivo is going to get a shot at wing instead of Parenteau. Stamkos: You're right, the Leafs don't need him now. Let's develop the young guys, maybe they become stars and get big money in a few years. There will always be UFAs available, why force it this year? Marner, yea I think he on the team, though maybe he might be limited to 40 Leaf games and the World Juniors. Probably best for his development than sending back to junior. Murray and the goaltending. Think the Leafs want to give Sparks and Bibeau some time in the NHL and lots minutes in the AHL. Better evaluation. Summer of 2017 there will be goalies available and maybe quite a few in there is expansion. Just wouldn't make a move this season and give up assets.

You guys completely miss the real reason why the leafs needs Stamkos if he becomes available. For one he would automatically become the best player on the team. Most likely he will be captain. All the pressure will be on him to carry the team not any of the younger guys. Want to know why Edmonton has been terrible for so long with all those great picks? Its because there has been too much pressure put on them too early to succeed. They didnt have that transition time to grow into true NHLers. Second, if you look at the team we dont have any true goal scorers except for maybe JVR. Marner and Brown are still rookies, too early to tell how well they can finish in the NHL. Once again do you want to put that pressure on them if they dont make an impact right away? Lastly you sign Stamkos for 7 years he will be 33/34. Pretty much the point where most elite players start to drop off.

Matt I disagree with you on a number of points.

The reason why Edmonton hasn't succeeded yet isn't because of pressure it's because they have too much of 1 thing and nothing of the other. They have Hall, RNH, Yakupov, Eberle, McDavid and so on but who is focused on keeping the puck out of their own net? That's the problem no D, No shutdown forwards and No goalie.

by signing Stamkos the leafs will have Stamkos, Nylander, Marner, Kadri, JVR, and Yes Rilley but other than him who is plying D? Who's there goalie? You end up with the same problem Edmonton has. Save the cap space let the kids grow together and go get some D and young goalie.

As for pressure I disagree with you again. Pressure stems from expectations. This year the expectation was to suck and get the top pick. So there was zero pressure. Next year the pressure goes up with the addition of Matthews. You add a Stamkos and boom this city is going to start planing the parade. The expectations are going way up and with that so does the pressure. And suddenly the Leafs will start thinking about geting guys to win now. it's a short cut much like Kessel ( I know Stamkos is better)

Build the right way, they are doing it now for the first time. they should stick to it.
