Ducks make a deadline deal for one, most likely final, shot at a cup with the current core. I don't think the Ducks are paying too much for a player that could give them a better chance to make a deep playoff run.

I read that Panarin isn't talking contract all season and has no intention of resigning until he tests the market. This could cause the Blue Jackets to move him for some assets that won't expire. I believe that Silfverberg would be easier to resign for substantially less money which is important because Bob is a UFA and could require a raise upon conclusion of a successful season and then Werenski is due a big raise at the end of his ELC. Mahura has good upside and with the pick they could draft another talent around the lines of Milano, Carlsson or Foudy aka their recent mid/late 1st picks.
