I know Yandle can sign with anyone but......why would Arizona trade for 5m MacDonald and then let Philly sign Yandle at 5m. Wouldn't Arizona and Yandle be a lot better off by signing Yandle to 6.5m?
Don't think Detroit could take on Streit's 5m.

Fair points. McD to Arizona made the most sense to me since they have a history of taking on risky average defenseman contracts. They probably wouldn't give up two draft picks for him either so one draft pick would make the most sense. I would imagine Yandle would want to be on a team closer to contention. Not saying Philly would be a cup winner with this roster but they would be closer than Arizona next year. As for Detroit, they have a history of taking on players of older age sho I figured Strait would work best there. I'm also making this move under the assumption that they can somehow move Datsyuk's contract. FYI Nichushkin would be part of the Read deal since he is an RFA.
