Description
Leafs have a great window to win the cup; Nylander is a great chip to acquire a top pairing d man. Hyman and Brown are expendable given the Leafs depth on the wing, I see Kapanen and Johnsson developing top 6 forward potential. Stralman is a great number 4 man. If Sandin and Liljegren aren't ready, Borgman and Ozhiganov are good options for the bottom pairing. A top 4 pairing that is as good as any in the league.

The Leafs don’t need another offensive defenseman with no defensive skill. Risto is not a 1st pairing defender. The only reason he’s considered that is because Buffalos defense sucks.

Fathertime is undefeated, marleau is going to feel his age at some point and your centers are going to get there points and make your wingers look better than they are but in playoff crunch time a line and a half or three centers and a winger or two is not enough offense when the everything gets tight and also needed is a physical forward and dman that play on the line, rather cross check you than give you the time of day types like Mcnabb and Wilson. You kinda have that in kadri but he’s probably going to be asked to shoulder a big load all ready whenever the offense goes quiet moved up to top 6

Risto is hardly an improvement. He’s probably one of the most overrated D in the league.

Ristolainen blows in his own zone .... and all our good D are offensive already (Rielly, Gardiner, Dermott, eventually Liljegren).

Go for better defensive RD on cheaper / longer term contracts (who probably won't cost Nylander) .... guys like Pesce.

Stralman is not getting a raise next year (at 32 or 33) .... he showed pretty significant decline last year .... though I'd be happy to see him on the team.

I'd try to sign a couple guys like Jan Rutta & Stralman before going anywhere near Ristolainen both will probably sign for $3-4 million x 4 years.

Zaitsev probably performed similar to Ristolainen in his 1st year .... less points but better defense .... maybe he bounces back.

it actually makes the leafs considerable worse. risto is and the aging stalman replace the four leaf regulars, hyman, brown, zaitsev and nylander.

Weak lineup. Adding Risto does not make this team any better. Now their are huge holes up front on the wings. Kapanen and Johnsson are a big unknown in a top 6 role. Bracco, Grundstrom and that entire 4th line are huge question marks. Some of them might not even be NHL ready yet. Matthews needs an elite level winger to play with plus Matthews and Nylander already have outstanding chemistry. Why break that up?
