Theoretically a bad move for the Isles but they have made some strange choices recently in acquiring older players like Filpulla and komorov so maybe they'd do it.

Why would the Islanders ever make that trade? They're basement dwellers this year. Why give up young talent and a pick for an expiring contract who wouldn't resign? Also, Andrew Shaw coming off the year he just had is not worth that.

Shaw is definitely worth a third round pick and a middle of the pack prospect. He is a stanley cup winner and a heart and soul grinder. Teams like San Jose that are going for a cup need players like shaw, they habs might even retain some salary.

The Islander need to compete this year, or risk losing their fan base all together. Lou needs to do whatever he can to make this team compete for a playoff spot, and they are not as bad as people might think. with pac on barzels left and eberle or lee on the right, you have a bonafide first line and a pretty decent 2nd line as well.

they had a trade/extension for pacioretty in place at the draft, so you don't know what you're talking about

I love these out the box trades. It all dépends on injuries and team windows to the cup. On a Montreal point of view, the trades looks fair. But I still don't understand why the Isles hasn't trade Tavares at trade deadline.

**At The draft- before Tavares left**

Also, not seeing on here where you indicate that there would be an extension in place...? Also, if I don't know what I'm talking about, why was the trade not made? Hmm..

You pick up Pacioretty and give up this much for him for one year, you still don't even make the playoffs. Goaltending is still a huge question mark, and they lost their first line C and didn't get anyone to replace him, and they didn't even make the playoffs when they had him. Complete waste of pieces for one year of Pacioretty when you won't make the playoffs.

the trade wasnt made because wahlstrom and dobson fell to the picks the isles had and they didn't want to trade a first where they could get a legitimate future star for the aging once-star that is max pacioretty. also, tavares was on the team for literally 10 more days after the potential deal fell through. why would pacioretty go to that team then but not the team now? he knew what was probably gonna happen

I know why the trade wasn't made, my question is why they wouldn't make it now? Your comment insinuates that it is Pacioretty that wouldn't want the trade to happen. I would argue it should be the Isles that don't want it to happen. As an Isles fan, would you really want Pacioretty for a year at that cost? I can't seem to wrap my head around why you would want that?

Im gonna assume you're referring to the potential return at the draft, and since an extension was attached, I would've been fine with dealing a first for like six or seven years of patches, especially if it someone like a middle-of-the-road type of guy like a tyson jost or someone who went in that range in years past was available. But wahlstrom and dobson both fell like six spots, and so for a team that will probably be just alright (or worse) like the isles, then making the picks made more sense.
