Description
Through the month of august I'll make a quick review of each team and how they could improve with trades or signs. Today the Detroit Red Wings. Where do I start.... well this team is a mess. In goal they have two fridge starter but neither is a long term solution and in the pipeline I don't think they have a future starter. In defense they're old or slow. When your 1st pair is Dekeyser and Green you know you're in trouble. Those two are at best 4th defenseman and except Kronwall they're all sign for at least another year. Hronek and Cholowski are good prospect at the position. The offense.... too much terms for aging 3-4th liner such as Abdelkader, Helm, Glendening and Nielsen. Those contracts are almost untradable. At least they have good youngster in Mantha and Larkin and a new wave of prospect are coming either this season or in the next one with Zadina, Rasmussen, Svechnikov, Veleno. With that in mind the wings should try to sell players with a year left in their contract.

I don't think the wings will trade Vanek. He has a NTC and the Wings use him as kind of an extra coach on the ice to develop young players. Jensen is almost guaranteed to be traded. I think Hicketts gets called up before Hronek (but it's really a toss up between the two). Our top d pairing last season was Daley and Ericsson. it'll most likely be Daley and DDK/Ericsson again this season. Glenny is our best player on the FO and centers our 4th line. AA doesn't really belong in the top 6 and he definitely doesn't belong on the PK. Larkin should be on the PK. Hronek and Kronwall don't kill penalties either. Daley spent the most time on the PK last season. Jensen killed a lot of penalties too. The coaches plan on having Rasmussen as a LW so they can ease him into the center position like they did with Larkin. Rasmussen and Bertuzzi are our net front presence, they won't be on the same unit.

Vanek as a full NTC for the life of his contract,, He's already said that at his age now. That he's getting sick and tire of having to keep uprooting his family. He's staying with Detroit for the whole season. That's already been reported. Good luck convincing Nyquist to accept a trade to San Jose he's engaged to a local Detroit girl and wants to stay as close to Detroit as humanly possible.

I don't disagree with the Nyqvist trade, and I think the Sharks might like him a lot on that second line. I think the package coming back might be a little weak though, and that's from a San Jose Sharks fan's perspective.
